Hello everyone, looking for some help with an odd issue. My power seat starts "clicking" or making what feels like micro-adjustments as I drive down the road but only after driving it for 30-40+ minutes. If I drive a short distance or time, no problems at all, but after I have been driving longer, I start to notice that the seat starts "popping" or "clicking". At first, I thought it was just the leather rubbing against itself between the upper and lower sections but then it kept doing and gets progressively worse. Been bugging me for a while but today I had to drive across town and it started doing it right before I got to my destination. I got back in to drive home after about a 15 minute break and it started back up after only a couple of minutes. I placed my hand on the plastic cover by the seat adjusters on the left side and could feel clicking or tapping from underneath. I initially thought that as I sat in the seat, the left thigh cushion was pushing down on the plastic cover and actuating the power adjusters every time I hit a small bump in the road (you can feel the clicking or movement in the switches as well). So I drove it straight to Toyota to show them the issue. I sat in the service bay for about 10 minutes and the problem slowly went away. The service advisor was able to feel it a little before he brought it to the back but then it sat longer and the tech said they couldn't recreate the issue.

I have NO IDEA what would start having issues after a certain period of time and then goes away if it sits for a few minutes. I sat there with the tech and advisor and tried explaining how it only happens after driving for 30 or 40 minutes and then becomes pretty pronounced but goes away if the truck sits off for a few minutes.

I tried researching "tacoma power seat issues" thinking that someone else had to have had a similar problem by now but no luck. This is such an odd issue, I have no idea what could be causing the problem at this point? Any thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated!

Did they bother to check out the electrical connections? Sounds like an interment short?

They said they couldn't recreate the issue and the only thing the tech did was "reset the seat" (whatever that entails).

The confusing part is that it only does it after a certain amount of time. That is what is baffling me the most.

Boy that’s a weird problem, sounds like something is making a switch go nuts. If you can, try another dealership. More times than not the techs don’t know how to troubleshoot past what the book says. You could also try removing the cover and see if there’s an obvious problem with a switch or connector or disconnect the power to verify that it’s a power issue at all. Good luck.

Adjust it to your liking and pull the fuse. Problem solved. You're welcome :D

Probably not a bad option, but I also believe that I shouldn't have to do that with a basically brand new truck. Optimally, I would like to find the issue and have it corrected, but I do agree, that would definitely work!

Tell them it's a safety issue when driving and that might get their attention .

my 21 does this and im about to lose my mind. mine pops too, as well as the clicking however mine has more of a creaking noise rather than clicking. its really fucking pissing me off because every time i take it to the dealer they say they cannot replicate EVEN though the service advisor saw me do and acknowledged it......

Claim that you feel unsafe and they'll dig into it. Use the exact word "unsafe"

This sort of sounds similar to my power seat the first couple weeks i own the truck. I would set the seat where i wanted it. The would be fine the rest of the time i was sitting on it, but when shut the truck off, and let the truck sit overnight, the sitting position was all screwed up the next morning. I had to completely reset it over. Happened several times. Don't know if these seats have a learning curve, or what, but after a couple weeks it no longer did it. To this day the seat has been where i set it last.

I have the exact same issue. It’s not an electrical issue with a switch. It’s definitely some sort of mechanical clunk. It sounds like a loose gear or bolt slipping on a tooth or thread. I’ve done a few trips over 2000 miles and it’s only getting worse. Not sure exactly what to dig into but I’ll be pulling my seat out next week to see what I can find.

Pulling the fuse will determine if its electrical or mechanical problem, and will be helpful to rule out electrical if the problem persists. My guess....mechanical issue.

Do you have your seat all the way back...or partially forward? If partially forward, then perhaps it is clicking backward. Is it all the way down, or partially up? Thus if partially up it may be slipping downward.

Funny you mention this. Back when my truck was new, i had to reset the power seat back to my liking several times. Even asked, or started to accuse the wife of messing with it, which she denied. I'd set the seat, it'd be good till the next morning, and then it'd be was back to something nowhere close to where it should have been. I thought there was some sort of memory bs going on with it where it was originally set at the dealer before i picked up the truck. At any rate i was getting pissed off, and gave the seat slap of the hand. No more issues at all since. I haven't had to move it since.
