    Hi,

My 2009 V6 4wd Tacoma has recently had the back up camera and back up lights stay on. Sometimes the camera goes off but the lights remain on.

Also if I shut it off in reverse fan motors keep blowing the lights stay on and the remote for the door locks do not work.

    any ideas??

I forgot to mention, when I unplug the reverse switch at the transmission the lights stay on.

If you’re not the original owner, I’d look for a hacked wiring job for something like an aftermarket backup camera or possibly alarm.

Try unplugging the tail lights. Do one side, the other side, then both. Test to see if anything changes.

A common failure spot is those “automotive “ connectors that sorta slice through the insulation. I hate those things. Sometimes they’ll also slice through the inner strands leaving one strand or none still connected.

I think I'd also look for water intrusion/corrosion in the junction connectors by the kick panel as well as the interior fuse box.

yeah my bet is some monkey hacked something that now has failed. Generally, automotive circuits don't fail "on", usually what happens is the ground wire corrodes and it fails to illuminate. In your case, I bet dollars to donuts there's a janky jumper connected somewhere.
