Best Cargo Bag or carrier to go with OEM roof rack

So I am having an OEM roof rack installed on my truck. Ideally, I would like to get 1 of those water-proof bags or something that I can haul some light things in, using the OEM rack. We have a rack on my wife's vehicle also, so I wanted to get one on the truck too and buy 1 bag or container that can be used for either. We have a kid on the way and just looking for some extra storage from the vehicles for when we go on trips. Does anyone have anything in particular that works well with the OEM style rack? I know there are some decently priced ones on Amazon. Just figured I would check on here before I order one. Thanks.

 

Not related but...... You think about getting a soft topper? Super light weight, easy to install and remove and waterproof.

 

In my experience, those water proof bags are not as water proof as you think they are. Get a yakima or thule box, it lasts longer and carries a lot more.

 

That would be awesome, but in the summer, I usually have my dirtbikes or mountain bikes in the bed. So that takes a soft topper out of the question, unfortunately. So that was why I was looking to just put some light stuff on the roof rack. We went away twice this summer and were pretty packed full. So just would be nice to free up space for blankets, and lighter clothes bags and dog toys etc up there.

In the winter when we don't have the bikes, I can get everything in the bed w/ the tonneau but I can put the skis up on the roof rack. I may or may not need the storage carrier to go skiing, but for sure in the summer.

Looking for similar. I installed a Rhino Rack on top of my NoBo travel trailer and need to cover a portable shitter tank and odds and ends. Not so much worried about waterproof but protection from sun.

 

I used this one for a while on a bed rack. It worked fairly well, but if you are not loading it pretty close to full, things will move around quite a bit. I can't speak to the actual waterproofing, as I don't recall using it in the rain:

the topper folds forward, Just undo 2 straps and the side buttons. takes less than 2min. I used to run a roof rack. But it gets annoying and you get tons of wind noise

 

Ya this was 1 of the ones I saw. It looks pretty decent, for what I need it for. The price is really nice too. Bonus that it folds up for easy storage. I just would rather not have a big hardshell to have to worry about storing.

Ya, they seem very easy and would be cool. But the problem is I need the extra storage when I have the bikes in the bed, mostly. That's what is eating up a lot of my space (bike, stand, ramp, gas can gearbag tools etc.) So far when we have not had the bikes, we have enough space. Also like I mentioned, it could potentially also help to have the bag for my wife's SUV, if we ever don't take the Tacoma.

 

So I just wanted to revisit this and follow up for those curious. I had the OEM roofrack installed by my dealer. So far no leaks or issues. It seems really nice, so no problems there. I ended up finding a waterproof bag and have now used it. I did use it in rainy conditions and it worked great. So for anyone looking to use their rack in this manner, I am pretty pleased. I put backpacks, blankets, pillows, extra shoes, laundry, dog toys etc up there. Nothing too heavy but it freed up space inside, which was what I was looking to do. This pic is maybe not the best, as we had more stuff up there on the way home. But it was raining so I didn't get a pic going home. But you get the point.

 

These work great for my needs. Been using them for years and they have held up just fine. You could easily fit two up there if needed. Regards
