Anyone local to Riverside area can help me get my oil filter off? Had the dealership do my last oil change for my Toyota care and they tighten the hell out of the oil filter housing. I have the tool but I can't get the thing off.... I got the tool to remove it, just can't get it off...

Won't he be at risk of messing up the threads because of the lateral impact? Am I talking out of my ass?

Do you have a breaker bar? Impact wrench? If not (and this isn't ideal) you can use hose clamps or zip ties to attach your wrench to some sort of rod as an extension for leverage.

depends which truck. 2nd gen uses a metal canister up top.
3rd gen has a plastic housing cap.

OP you may want to try it hot. The heat might help loosen it up.
A good fitting socket or tool onto the cap

be warned, I have seen overtightening cause the housing to break/crack upon removal. Hopefully this doesn't happen.

I used one of the bars on my floor jack but still couldn't get a grip on it. It actually snapped by old oil filter wrench so I needed to buy a new one

Yup, Dealers have a problem over torqueing the plastic housing, if you broke a filter wrench your probably already at the point of destructive removal, you should order a replacement housing before going any further, just in case. This is the one you want, its aluminum and doesn't get over torqued as easily, but the only real way to avoid this problem is to do the changes yourself and don't over torque the housing.

Take it to the dealer this time around and have them change the oil 100% for you. Then when getting the truck back, have your tool handy and make sure you're able to loosen it. Then retighten it for the next oil change. They should be adding a bit of oil to the oil filter that comes into contact with the engine. Then it shouldn't be overtightened to avoid issues like this.

If not, start working out and come back in a month to loosen it up.

Damn. Was it a MotivX filter wrench? Kinda pricey but worth it, I would feel comfortable blasting it off with my 1/2 impact if I had to… but the. Again I torque my stuff down correctly because I’m not an animal :der:
