Few questions to help me make a decision.

How long do helicoils or timeserts last?

I had a head crack replaced with a new Toyota head but one head bolt I wasn’t able to get the last 45degrees of torque in before the head bolt started stripping. Should I be concerned about that?

I have a 2 inch lift or slightly under but I’m on my 3 set of boots within 2 years and a couple months. (Toyota stock with 160k till roughly 165k to new Capones cv axle roughly 5k now looking to get refurbished oem Toyotas and doing boot slide mod) How much longer will the boot slide mod last with oem boot? Or should I go manual hubs? Anybody have knuckle/spindle with manual hubs pressed in and aisin lockouts for sale?

I've put about 15K on my oem boots over bootslide mod and they look brand new. Have +3" on the front.

I have about a 3" lift and just installed a rebooted axle with the bootslide mod. No issues so far. Don't go with manual hubs, those axles are known to be weaker.

Thread replacements done correct can last forever !

Timeserts is the fix for the Rav4 Headbolt issues

I have a couple time serts for 2 spark plugs. You know what would cause that beside an impact gun or it actually being a ford?Unfortunately for me it on the other head I had to replace. Almost want that side to crack to so I don’t have to worry about them.

Thanks. I ended up ordering some refurbished oem cv axles from yota1 performance. I’ll try the boot slide mod after these boots fail with oem parts.

When you removed the old head you did run a thread chaser down all the head bolt holes?

Then suck out any chips with a vacuum?

You could have got a bad bolt . Why did the head crack?? Over heat or freeze either could have caused block damage enough to effect torquing the head bolt.

Using a Mag drill it would not be to bad to drill the hole with the engine in the truck you might need to remove the hood.

You do need to figure out just what was the cause first.

I didn’t remove the head with the time sert for the spark plugs I did however go slow cleaned shavings and grease multiple times re threading and chasing the threads. I have no clue how it cracked. I’m guessing the person who had it before me had some issues I didn’t notice before I bought it. Cracked between and down into the valves. the spark plug popping out happened within the 1st 1000 miles of purchase. Head (opposite side)cracked within 10000 miles of purchase.

Sorry for late response I didn’t chase the head bolt threads in the block but the bolts came out in one piece. Block was within .001or .01.(Well within spec). I did vacuum them and then blasted them out with cleaning solvents and high pressure air also put oil on the new head bolts. Kinda not worried about it any more if it happens it happens I’ll get a junk yard engine temp and just keep this one and I wouldn’t mind try doing a port and polish on the heads and then some if its possible. Thanks
