Here is a good you tube video showing a remove and replace of the lower shaft .
I noticed he took the time to unbolt the rack . Possibly took too much apart but made the job easier. He used a bunjee cord to hold the steering . Didnt say anything bout removing the battery post to avoid setting off the air bag or causing damage to the clock spring .

No problem .
Now i just gotta do the job hehe . Massive spray down with penetrating fluid first . Running outta time . Snow flies will be in the air shortly

 

I rebuilt my lower shaft with the all balls u joint.

It lasted all of 3k miles before getting slop in it.

Possibly I got a lemon, but I can’t recommend it.

I just received my $41 complete lower shaft from Amazon. It looks right. Still need to install it in my new 2015 which seems to suffer from this issue.

Hey guys, I can confirm that a 1998 5lug Tacoma uses the same u joint. Had sussesion but the only modification you need to do is grind the inner side of the yoke to allow the circlip to fit flush. But other than that,

Anyone here ever have a steering clunk related to either of the steering shaft ujoints?

Also anyone know if upper and lower intermediate shafts u joints are the same?

 

I have a 2014 DCSB 4x4 Sport.

The pickup wanders on some roads. I'll be driving down the lane and the pickup will dive right or left but only on certain roads. Feels like it grabs the rut or crown and takes control of the steering.
Have lubed the joint. No rust, is a garage queen with 73K miles.

Anyone have this issue and did replacing the bearing or shaft help with this issue?

Kinda sounds more like an alignment issue. Negative toe, low caster or not enough positive camber
