Yeah it doesn't seem like a big deal depending on what these are made out of. Will put my titanium drill bits to work. <stronk.mpeg>.

Getting aligned Monday since I recently lowered the truck, so holding off on installing these until then to see how much actually needs to be milled out since I think they'll come in even more. Perfect fitment for the main shaft portion though, this seems better than just hacking some off of the end.

It looks like mine may be tight so I may open them up on the lathe at work before install.

Oh, I think maybe he hacked off the end. I understand more of what you're saying about opening up the end a bit. I'm not sure it's a significant delta, it's not like these have been stress tested under millions of different load scenarios, right? The main goal is to prevent a bend between thread and bulge, yeah? So adding strength in the middle is key?

Mostly agreed. But if it's a quick project to open up the end a little I'd rather keep as much length as possible and have the extra strength of it covering the widest area of the tie rod section as well. Might not make a difference in the real world but it makes sense in my head. Chances are I won't wheel this truck hard enough to need these anyway but it's that extra peace of mind on top of the peace of mind lol.

For those of you who end up opening up the end, if you could state the ID and depth that would be helpful. I won’t get around to putting mine on for 2 weeks but want to make sure I can do it at home or send them somewhere

I will when I actually cut them up. Length may vary based on alignment settings though. Mine should only need ~5-7mm opened depth-wise . And it's fairly small amount of material that needs to be removed - the hole only needs to be enlarged about 2-3mm (from ~17mm -> ~19.5mm). I will get proper numbers when I do the install sometime next week.

LS1-T56 swap, Z06 ported heads, cam, Titanium valves, Kevlar clutch. Now building a forged stroker (383) and all the ponies! Old setup was rod-knockin on heaven's door...
I removed about 7mm off the end, didn't have to trim it much at all, but it still goes over the section where it necks up and fits over the area for the wrench to fit for adjustment but still covers it so the strength should not be compromised since the sleeve is completely over the thin section of the rod.
Really good idea and installs pretty easily, just put a little anti seize on the threads and good to go.

For me, I’m full stock on tie rods. I was surprised as well that mods were needed. I believe it didn’t clear the bulge. @Speed Freek might remember more. I didn’t take pictures and he didn’t either but here are some for the after.

All I had to do was ream the last little bit of inner diameter out closest to the rack. I don’t have oem tie rods, think they are mevotech or something. As far as some others trimming the sleeves shorter, I’m not sure why that would be necessary. I simply put the sleeve in the vice and hit it with one of these bits (will attach picture). All tie rods I’m sure vary with diameters as far as non oem goes. For what this product is and only having to ream a little bit of ID out is nothing. Thanks again for not only the product and discount but for such an awesome idea.

I highly doubt that you are breaking that bolt before you blow/break the steering rack

I agree which is another reason I didn’t feel the double shear necessary. I was just stating worst case if the tie rod without double shear he was referencing were to fail deeming the double sheer necessary that I could grab another bolt and put it on.

Rubicon tested! Haven't bent an inner before, but a good piece of mind with the sleeves so I'm not as easily a trail plug. Also nice that the tires don't point at eachother anymore when the front is unloaded and locked.
    PSX_20220627_194849.jpg DSC04650.jpg

Not sure what the hype is over the heim outers, I have 60k of wheeling every weekend on my stock outers and they are fine, even with seeping grease. Meanwhile, I have gone through about 8 inner tie rods as the cups of them wear out.
