For someone with 12yrs installing tires I am blown away at your comment. If you put the dot where it should be, you wont need nearly as much weights. The idea is to not have to use as many weights! Road force balance only fixes things by adding more weight where you need it. If you put the dots where they should be, you wouldn't need NEARLY as many weights to correct it. Im not paying someone extra to do it wrong and then be the hero because he used a hunter road force to correct it the improper tire placement. lol.

Im sorry, but you are the guy we don't want touching out tires. The dots serve a purpose and work.

Good point. Just that with so many tires installers? How many really are aware of the Red & Yellow dots? Or care?
Off course it effects the tire shop more, due to cost of the additional tire weights.

Yellow dots why I like the yellow dots ? …belonging to a fishing club and the many group outings, people borrow stuffs. We all learn to color paint or tag our fishing gears with a certain colors. Just so happen I had a extra can of yellow spray paint. Started marking everything in yellow, 40 years of doing this.
I will use over 30 feet each year of engineering grade yellow reflective tapes. Tape on the legs of post, tables chairs, fishing rods, reels, tools, everything is mark . Haha. Amazon 1” by 30 feet. Reflective yellow tape.

The road force balancer is a joke. It is something that is used by someone that doesn't know what they are doing. Totally agree that if someone knows what they are doing, they don't need a tool that someone with half a brain can work without.

After finally finding a 5th wheel, I had my local shop mount/balance a spare today. They know what’s up. 4 sticky weights on the opposite side

Just a note, Some companies do not use any colors or marks, like how Red & Yellow dots . Some companies may use different colors.
Also if you see other colors like blues green, orange it is for manufacturers information.

Every tire manufacturers have there recommendations how to mount there brand of tires. No two companies share the same instructions, which I found interesting.

The color dots only helps in balancing a tire which minimize of using the tire weights. Reducing the cost of less weights needed.

From what I understand any Tire can be balanced. ( almost perfectly). With or with the dots.

I see you're the type of customer to tell techs how to do their job because you are so good at it that you pay them just to piss and moan. Walk the walk and talk the talk are two different things youtube certified mechanic.

Interesting comment above. I do not believe every “Tech” knows everything? Techs can be wrong too.
When I had my rear brakes locking up ..No Toyota mechanic was able to find the problem. 4x to the dealer mechanics.
I suggested replacing the e-brake cables. Guess what happen? I had only one incident after washing my truck of brakes locking up. Before it would happen multiple times a month. Brakes locking while driving. Only in 4H or 4L.
Since replacing the E- cables ,my Tacoma brakes seems back to normal. So far.

Even tire shops today. Many are not aware or care. About the Red & Yellow dots. The cost of tire weights is not coming out of workers pockets.

I am sure there will be many examples of how owners had to tell the tech”s what to do. “Hey buddy you fix the wrong flat tire.” Or you change the wrong parts.

No matter how good you are. It is always appreciated when someone can point things out. To do better or correctly or the proper way.

True story - Tracker- trailer truck stuck under a over passed. The tow truck driver’s couldn’t tow the truck out. A little boy watching , tell the policeman “why don’t they lower the tires “? The policeman look at the boy, smiles. The policeman went over to the tow truck driver, they lower the tire pressure and free the truck.
A young child telling the Techs what to do!

Do you know what I do for a living? Maybe I know a lot more about this than you do? In fact, it’s clear that I do!

Seems like the only thing you do know is how to install tires incorrectly. Who the hell wants a 20pc row of lead weights vs one or two? All because you didn’t take the 5 seconds to place a tire correctly?

Im sorry your ego is so hurt. But your cooter the mechanic way of doing it is wrong.

Even the Guys at Samsclub KNOW how to mount the tires with the dot in the right place. i have 4 cars and the always seem to get them in the right place.
But i will tell you this, that on my motorcycle the dots are very important.... :bikewheelie2:

My ford ranger 1999 with the 3.0 . I had a broken hose on the intake manifold The Ford dealer parts guy keeps ordering the wrong parts. Keeps telling I was wrong .His parts computer only shows this part number for the 3.0
We later found out, to find out the engine n my truck came from a early version of the 3.0.

I finally brought the parts to dealer. No records on there computers of the older 3.0. For the 1999 Ranger.
The original owner may have brought this with the 1998 3.0 engine before Ford replace it with the newer 3.0.

Dealers and Tech can be wrong. Ever buy a A/C compressor? So many versions can be found on the same vehicle, I found this out the hard way. Some the ports are located differently.
