Replaced the left and right door checks on my extended cab this week. These are available for free to anyone that wants them, you pay for shipping. I believe they are rebuild-able if you can source the rubber pads that resist the movement of the check arms.

    Door checks have been claimed.

Curious whether replacing them helped eliminate the squeaking (assume that's why you replaced them)?

I had an issue with them squeaking many years ago, but some white lithium grease on the check arms resolved that issue.

My motivation for replacing them was my Dad bought a 2nd gen Tundra, and the door checks on his truck made a popping sound when you would open or close the door. We replaced the broken door check on his Tundra and it made me realize that mine were worn out. There are rubber pads inside the door check metal casing, and when those wear down the check doesn't hold the door in place as well when extended.

I see, very helpful, thanks. I too have done the grease fix but for some reason it is not a long lived solution for me. Haven't wanted to tear the door apart to replace the door checks but knowing that there's something else that's likely worn out might be incentive to get in there and do it. I don't have much of a baseline but I do think my doors don't stay open as well as they do in newer cars that I've driven/rented. The enduring squeak fix alone is probably worth the money the new ones cost.
