My own "old fart" opinion but, it seems funny to me all the people claiming their business is off and sales are flat while their stock is minimal and their sales follow-through is dismal at best. When I bought my truck (paid cash) the first dealer I went to said he'd call me when he got more trucks in (his inventory was sparse). That was a year ago and he never has called me back. You gotta wonder.

    Not here.
I'm still getting calls from Toyota dealers I visited when buying my '09 and that's 2 months ago.
What surprises me is that with the economy the way it is and the holidays, you would think Toyota dealer service would love for someone to go for $5K for a SC and installation.
I had one dealer tell me the SC install would be 15 hours labor.:D

Has anyone thought of installing the supercharger themselves, then having the dealer reprogram it afterwards?

I've read people have but you only get a 1 year/12K miles warranty on the unit if a Toyota dealer doesn't do the install.
So if you're out of drivetrain warranty or close,do the install yourself.

I called and found a dealer not far from me who will do the install in the book 6 hours.:)
I said are you sure and he said we've done many so I'm going to give them a shot.He said they're adding one to a Scion right now and have done Tacomas and Tundras.
Now I hope the dealerToyota of Dallas(TRDparts4u.com) I'm buying from gets them later this week.

I just picked up my truck. Time billed was 13 hours including the CAI. The service manager said the removal and replacement of my ARB bumper and All Pro front armor added about three hours over an install on a stock vehicle. I didn't think to ask how much the CAI had contributed to the hours. It's too slick here to get on it very hard but the change in low RPM response is obvious .

My wife asked to be taken for a ride in the modified truck so I took her up I70 into the mountains. With the cruise control set at 70, before SC, the initial several miles immediately outside Denver was spent with speed fluctuating between 63 & 73 and the trans shifting back and forth between 3rd & 4th. After SC the speed stayed constant at 70 and no shifts to 3rd. Pretty impressive. :)

You probably were charged 8-9 hours on the SC alone. Not bad.I'd be happy with that.
I called about 7 dealers and was getting all kinds of hour numbers.
Most were in the 10-12 hour range.
My dealer has yet to call back.Kind of scary going with a dealer that is going by the Toyota labor book of 6 hours. If it becomes a little more,I won't mind.
Again,I'm told by that dealer that that do many SC installs. It is a Toyota dealer so if they EF up somehow,I'll be covered.Give me a loaner and fix any problem.
I'm glad to see you use the term 'pretty impressive' in your drive but would have preferred reading 'very impressive'..:D

When I have the opportunity to pull the boat over the Rockies I hope to be able to upgrade that assessment to 'very impressive'.
