Cool, guess the web manager is a little slow to update then.

There's a really nice campground in KY right down the road from Hollarwood and not far from Rush OHV. We found it doing parts of the DBBB and KAT. Definitely going to head back out there.

I don't think so. The only part open to full size rigs was bearwallow. Not sure when the rest in VA and WV is opening up to full size rigs.

@T.Barn Kairos is pretty cool. That park would be a blast in a Tacoma with a rear locker, winch, 33s and dual cases. There's really only one hard trail and it's called whale tail and it's doable in a Tacoma setup like above but the winch is MANDATORY as you need it to get out the bypass of the last section of trail. The place is like wheeling in a rain forest in rock Creek beds, nice campgrounds as well.

No real breakage on my truck.

This yj was badass, junkyard tons, junkyard 360 v8 and bias tsls, any other tire would look dumb on it. All built and wheeled by a 70yr old dude, pretty sure it's never been in a garage.

This is the hardest trail in the park called white whale, I ran it Friday afternoon right after setting up camp. That yj is on fullwidth tons and 42s for reference:

He kept getting denied so it was bypass time. This is looking down the bypass:

I'm standing right at a tree root filled ledge that I winched up and out of the trail.

Saturday was spent putzing around in Creek beds rock crawling. It rained from about 3hrs after I got there friday and was still downpouring as I broke camp today. Pretty sure this place has the same microclimate as Harlan. Probably a good thing as it's been like 9000* and 1000% humidity in the SE for the past month.

That looks like some fun stuff. Who’s got 33’s on a Tacoma anymore  What makes a trail great is not only it being difficult at times to make you work for it but also the scenery. That place looks like it has both. Looks like we are going to have to make a trip out there to check it out @EatSleepTacos

Agreed, and wheeling creek beds is probably my favorite kind of East Coast wheeling.

Yea it was a cool park, nothing really that hard but just some fun trails to trail ride on and look at trees and deers. I guess there's a badass river to go tubing on as well, I didn't go down there though.

It seems a lot of these ATV only parks in VA and WV are opening up the trails to trucks and jeeps now which is cool.

Yeah, that is sweet! They should open to trucks. If there were parks all up the coast the off roading would be a little more respectable.

I need to upgrade my communications game. My 22yr old free CB setup is ready to be put out to pasture. The club im in primarily used GMRS, so spoon feed me what base setup I need for a Tacoma. I'm not a huge fan of hand held as it usually ends up in the passenger foot well or in the abyss that is the back of my extra cab.

Any issue with me mounting the antenna where the stock FM antenna goes? Does GMRS need ground planes and all that crap? If so would my hood suffice? Explain it to me like I'm 5yrs old.

For the sake of internet arguing assume I have all the needed licences, so don't even mention that.

I will link my setup below. We also use gmrs. I came from cb and it’s crazy how well the gmrs units work. The unit I’m using is nice because you can hide the control box and plug the mic into an Ethernet cable outlet which then plugs into the unit. I will link the antenna I use too. It’s the short stubby one and I did ground that to a spot on the body and the reception was even better. The antenna can be mounted anywhere but the higher the better then just run your ground wire from under the antenna to a bolt nearby and you’ll be set.

Another cool aspect of gmrs is that you can use handhelds which also get good reception. I keep one in the truck to use for spotting if needed or if someone else doesn’t have one. I just bout the one without the charger because the battery pack doesn’t last for shit. If you just throw some double a batteries in it lasts for over a day.

Here’s some pics. I mounted an Ethernet cable outlet to the console then ran the cable to the unit which is just inside of the center console. Antenna on rear of truck and I have good reception. Another good benefit of the unit I sent you is that the sound and all controls are right there on the mic.

I’d look at rugged or pci radios. They have kits that make it stupid easy with everything you need minus a mount. May be a few extra bucks but makes it easy instead of ordering and paying for shipping on something small like a filter
