I’ve got the big one with the air tank.. I’ve been looking at that new m18, it would be handy for the motorcycle.

We use the big Platypus for our Boundary Waters trips-works FANTASTIC! Lots of water fast. Back flush and go again even in murky swamp water.

Sadly I will be on a canoe trip for the 20th, and now it looks like there is a conflict for the September get together. However, Apple Fest weekend is Clear! TWAT plus some local places to explore for those who can make it.

I definitely have a lot more confidence than when I started out. I just know that I have a lot to learn still. Then again, that's always the case. I'm sure even the seasoned, veteran guys learn new things occasionally. :)

I'm going to have to check these out. I've always had good luck buying things endorsed here.

D'oh! Let us know if anything changes. I'm looking forward to the October trip!

    Crew,

I have been doing some recon for the October TWAT/Bayfield visit and I have some questions for you. So... all of the trails I am planning to visit are legal for our trucks; however, they are not often used by "full sized" vehicles. As such they are often overgrown and can be "scratchy". Is this an issue for the group? I did the mnt Whittlesey loop yesterday and it brought a big grin to my soul, but it is overgrown. It adds another layer of complexity to the challenge of a tricky road because of compromised visibility. Truck was not too scratched up; but, you probably will need some touch up with a polisher for context. How feels the hive mind about scratches (Wisco pinstriping?)

Also, I am looking at trails that are possibly more challenging than what I saw on the Pipeline run (contextually more challenging.) There are no big rocks to climb, and you don't need 35's, but you may be uncomfortable with the trail width and exposure (side hill/cliff etc.) Possible side hilling beyond your normal comfort zone (tilt.) I am a teacher so pushing people out of their comfort zones is what I do. I also am of the opinion "nothing ventured, nothing gained" here; however, I do understand people have comfort limits. None of the trails have easy bailout or go around options but all are doable by a stock truck and without lockers (I am sure of it... this is confidence showing here.) Of course, all the extras do help. Are these deal breakers? What do you think? My opinion is all of the trails I am considering are in the 2-3 difficulty range (not continuous, but in sections, otherwise just happy wide dirt roads) with some havening a 4-5 pucker factor for sections (not official here, just my seat of the pants estimations.) I like the challenge and don't mind getting stopped/stuck/or forced to think, but I also want people to have fun. What says the group?

Found another fire tower I had not visited yesterday as well. These will be points of interest for our weekend adventures... What is the usual (you guys have done this trip before...) timing? I am able to take a Friday off so I can be available for exploration Friday, but I am thinking realistically a day of messing around on trail Saturday, with time to go do Applefest things in the afternoon evening. That means people getting up here Friday night or early Saturday morning travels. Is that realistic? It is a loooong ways for some of you. Sunday, I envision a partial day of play and everyone on their way by 1-2pm which gets you home by 7 ish. Does that schedule make sense? Am I over thinking all of this? Would like some group input please.

I'm really curious where you're finding these roads. I wish I could look for myself. I'm intrigued, but I don't generally get the appeal of rolling down a cliff if I sneeze at the wrong time. It might depend on where these roads end up.

As far as trail rash, I'm generally ok with it. However, I did go down an overgrown road in 2019 that I'm not about to revisit. Are we just talking light scratches in the clear coat?

I feel the same. Even though I like to test my limits I still have to drive the truck to work everyday unfortunately.

@pearing , hopefully I didn't come off too negative. I'm interested in seeing some new stuff. It's just hard to judge when I can't see it myself.

If gas weren't so damn expensive, I'd be tempted to come up for a look. Would you be willing to share the location of the more challenging spots? PM if you prefer..

Hey all, definitely interested and have the PTO on hand. The tour manager (wife) begrudgingly cleared a trip I'm taking for Labor day weekend with some buddies (will be the only Taco, therefore a god among mortals). So I'll have to see if I can squeeze this one in. She works weekends and we have the little one. I give it a 10% success rate. Regardless I'll be working on that rear diff breather mod next. I only have a cheap Baofeng UV-5R, so any recommendations are appreciated for upgrading comms.

Found out recently that I have been with my company long enough to get another week of vacation this year. Now have 4 weeks. Feels like I won the lottery woohoo! :bananadance: I have done exactly one fun thing all year (Pipeline weekend), otherwise have been too busy just building the truck and fixing the house. All work and no play make Homer something something. I need some time to turn my brain off.

Vacation time is approved for Sept 23 - Oct 16. I'm in the planning stages of my trip now and Taco projects have a new urgency lol. It's a possibility I may make an appearance at either Tigerton, TWAT, Applefest, all of the above, or none of the above. Just depends if I decide to go really far (like maybe driving to one of the coasts or Canada) or if I stay nearby. Still needs more planning and I'll be a last-minute add if I do show up. That's not to say I don't want to come - I really do, just don't have enough time to do everything. I do appreciate everyone who puts effort to planning these things, trust when I say all of us here are thankful for it!

First off I don't think you are over-thinking anything. That's the nature of a teacher and better to over-prepare than under-prepare!

For me personally I would opt out only because I subscribe to the deadly sin of vanity...at least for now. Pinstripes on my daily won't cut it because if you saw how much salt they dump down here on the IL/WI border you'd be afraid too lol. One scratch too deep and my poor truck gets road cancer. Give me a couple years and I'll probably get over it.

Pucker factor is good to note for those who haven't put their trucks in extreme angles. Going off a cliff is also good to note. Based on your rating system, for me personally this wouldn't stop me from attending.

Save vacation for September of 2023, I would like to get a group together to go to Moab,UT. I hopefully will have a rough outline later this year. Just want to keep a bug in everyone's ear about it.

I’ll be looking at my sources for removable vinyl vehicle wrap for that trip. Should be doable!
