This is normal. All tunes do that.
Watch ACIS control. When it is On, the upshift does not happen. Sometimes it works at very high speeds like 85-90 mph. The easy solution is to bump the stick to S mode and forward to S5.

Met with Paul today and he put the KD Max regular tune on my truck. I feel like I have a completely different truck from just the 20 mile drive home. It was amazing just exiting the Costco parking lot.
I'm sorry if I sound a bit too emphatic here, but of all the things we could want or need for our 3rd gen Tacomas, the tune I just got seems like the best first thing.

9304F47B-7661-4B69-8D66-BB5D0DE19C5B.jpg So last week I tuned a truck. He was so frustrated with the factory shifting that he had it listed for sale! Here is his response after getting the KDMax Pro+XT. He lives in central Idaho and it’s hilly there. He has the normal throttle.

I think it shifts much smoother in lower gears and under hard acceleration. And there is more power on the high end in 6th gear to prevent frequent downshifts to 5th going up slight inclines. Plus I believe my gas mileage has improved by 1 to 1.5 mpg.

Aside from what @PapaRee said PRO+XT holds 5th gear longer than PRO XT.

Every version of KDMax that I've installed has made improvements. Last week, I added Pro+XT and all I've had a chance to do is just run local errands. This morning, I left for church and could even tell a difference from yesterday. Can't wait to get out on the highway next week. Thanks @PapaRee

Greetings! Looks like I might FINALLY get my 2022 in the next month - and the first thing I want to do is tune it. I had a 2016 before, so I am familiar with what the stock feel is. Couple of questions:
    • Does anyone do tunes in New Jersey or close enough we could meet?
    • Cost? - I know it varies somewhat based on the tuner
    • What tune is best for a manual trans?
Thanks and apologies if these have been answered. I did try to search, but I haven't had my coffee yet.

    Congratulations on the new 2022.
We are in the process of adding a new authorized KDMAX tuner he will be covering Pa, MD, DE and NJ.
We will announce when he is available to start taking appointments. He should be ready before you receive your new 2022.
Pro+XT is the best choice with Sport throttle for the Manual owners. You will be able to test drive different settings so you will be able to dial in what fits your driving style.
Once he is operational you will be able contact him for pricing info and scheduling for your area.

Awesome - thank you for the quick response!

Ancillary question - in the future if I can afford the super charger, does that tune and KD Max mix? The SC seems like a lot of money, but I have no intentions of selling this truck after pestering my sales dude for nearly a year about my allocation.

Well just got back from a family vacation .167 miles one way . Stopped at our hwy dot scales . Truck weight 6,042 lbs + trailer weight 1,250 lbs . Kdmax pro xt winner . I didn't account for mpg on this trip , was focusing on tune performance. Well well kdmax very impressive on this trip . Truck temps stayed where they were supposed to. One time I had to take it down to 3rd gear , I was pulling very steep grade . Overall truck performance was 5 stars . Transmission stayed in safe ranges and also trq converter stayed in safe ranges . One day it got up around 97°F and with ac blasting , 3 kids in back seat , and 2 dogs in the bed still performed great. I do wanna note when truck was weighed at 6,042 lbs that was driver with 4 passengers and 2 dogs in the bed that was it . All my other weight was all the gear in the trailer . You know with having stock gearing I really didn't feel like I was struggling at all . I understand the output of my v6 especially tuned and I think It did a great job . Let's not forget I'm on 315/75/16s

I went to Whistler, BC in +XT tune last week. The truck was loaded with 4 adults, 2mtb's on the heavy a.. bike hitch rack, 2 inflatable SUPs + stuff for a few days of stay. The weight by my estimation was in upper 5k
My only issue was a fuel economy....
Otherwise the tune performed just fine, especially on BC road to Whistler. The road is one big incline for 80 some miles. Used 4th to climb steep and long hills, smaller -in 5th. 6th was not used that much due to the terrain, low speed limit and traffic.
Had to manually shift to S4 to accelerate on the inclines to get in front of slow traffic on single line road.
Plenty of power for merging and taking off from the light.
Monitored as usual. As previous versions, all parameters were in normal ranges.
