The shop that installed my topper ran the wires through the left rear fender over the wheel well, then down to the frame. There’s nothing in there to zip tie it to, so it’s just loose in the fender until it meets the frame. Does that sound reasonable?

I could cut it, splice in some more wire and run it all along the frame to the rear and then up into the topper. That seems better to me, but maybe it’s not really a big deal.

This picture shows what I did. I drilled a hole just above the OEM bed light, added a grommet, and ran the wiring harness through that. It doubles back under the lip of the shell, to the Leer fuse box at the rear corner.

Inside the fender, the harness runs into and out of the tail light compartment, down to the frame. (There's a sheet metal divider at the front of the tail light compartment, with large holes that the harness can go through. These holes secure the harness with no need for zip ties.)

There are 2 wires (constant 12 volts) that go directly to the battery. These are zip tied to existing wiring that runs along the frame. (This was the hardest part of the job.)

I have 2 wires going into the bed light location. But stead of going down to the frame, they go right in the picture, over the wheel, past the gas tank filler, then down to the frame. The red one goes to the battery. I think I’ll redo it and run the red one down to the frame like you did it.

The black wire actually has a green and blue inside and runs along the frame to right under the driver door, then up into the passenger compartment and ties into 2 wires in the wiring harness. I’m pretty sure for the remote lock/unlock for the topper rear window.

I have the remote tailgate lock installed and am hoping I can just tap into the lock/unlock wires in the harness right under the tailgate to clean things up, and seal the hole into the passenger compartment.

It just so happens that yesterday I took photos of my 2018 camper wire set up. The camper outfit drilled into the left back to do the wiring. The wiring includes the camper shell interior light.
