This. I actually reached out to State48 for some more work, and Erick gave me the good word that they're not as booked out as I expected to add more toys. Last lead time was 6+ months, at no fault of theirs of course.

Too bad I have to do more adult stuff before I actually get put on the list, but was willing to start the countdown if time warranted it.

If you really want to go off-grid there's a few android OS or phones that run a Linux OS that can do that for you like @Aw9d said but you're going to lose a lot of the reasons you get a smart phone (ex. nav). On a different note, most ad tracking is different platform to platform. If you want to use the consumer internet you're going to have data collected (not passwords) its just inevitable but you're not being followed, they don't care about anything other than showing you ads that have the highest chance to sell you something

 

It's been a long while since I was beta testing Cyanogenmod and other customer OS's on Android. I'd imagine they've come a long way - or the firewalls for rooting a phone have gotten even worse.

Either way, I finally caved to consumerism and just keep an up-to-date iPhone.

 

Its convenience over privacy and even being a tech guy myself I also have a up-to-date Iphone

 

These days it really doesn't matter. Unless you're living in a cave off grid someone is listening to you via some sort of device. I also gave up trying to keep more secure. Hell I have 13 Alexa spies in my house. Shows how much I don't care anymore. Track me, listen in ony conversations, watch me bang my wife. Don't care just send me a copy of the video.

 

I had an Alexa thing once.... I was bored and trying to find something to watch and asked it if it had any recommendations. It gave me a list of TV shows and then I asked it if it had an opinion on what I should watch. It went back and forth with me and I asked it if it had an opinion on anything. The darn thing then asked if it needed to make an emergency phone call for me. I immediately unplugged it and threw it in the garbage.

 

I was wondering if anyone has been out to havasupai point on the south rim this year? It's been 4 years since I was last out there and have been meaning to take my wife camping over there since the drive is a bit long for Point Sublime for a quick weekend trip.

 

FWIW my close cousin is a US Marshall. They all use Iphones and he has told me plenty of times. If turn off certain functions on an Iphone. It makes it really hard for law to track you. Especially to keep away from Google products. Dont even install Google Maps. Apple maps is easy to set to not track etc.
As far as rumors about back door access they dont have access and any looking still takes warrants and can be a pita to work with Apple. As far as what the "Alphabet agencies" have access too, is out of his scope.
Otherwise by burner phones that have no data access. Use older networks and cash only sales and prepaid time. But should be 1 time use only and dont buy in your home town/city. If you really really want to get off grid.
