Last night while wheeling I was on a slight hill with a slight turn in it and was it 4 high. I went to put it in park while my foot was on the brake. I put it in park took my foot off and it made like a grinding/ slipping noise not sure if it was transmission or transfer case. Either way it sounded awful. I finished the trail with no other noises at all and everything seemed to work and shift property. Is this some kind of safety built in when on a hill for the transmission? Thanks for any help even though I know it’s very vague and I couldn’t replicate it. Also the truck has stock gears tire are 285/75/17F1EE9A2D-F4F8-4F32-BA83-2412534CDA6D.jpg

Based on your description, I'd venture a guess that maybe even though you had your foot on the brake maybe it was still rolling just a teeny tiny bit. That might cause the parking pawl in the transmission to make a grinding noise, especially if the pawl is already worn a bit.

Bonus round: Based on the photo it looks like you are pointed uphill? As in the direction the truck is facing would be going up the mountain? If so, I'll double down on my guess and say you were coming to a stop with foot on brake but due to the incline the truck rolled slightly backwards while shifting to park. Parking pawl lever inside the trans didn't like it and gave you some feedback.

Or none of that, impossible to say really if you can't re-create it. :anonymous:

hey man, unrelated to your noise, how is your truck with 285/75 ‘s ? Im thinking I’ll go with that size this winter when I get new tires. Did you have to do any excessive cutting to the front end ? I also am running a bumper that should allow tons of clearance, but curious if there’s anything else I should expect. Also, how’s it do with stock gears? I’m currently on 285/70, so I’m guessing slightly worse but hopefully not terrible?

thanks in advance! Mostly just looking for someone with this setup to give me some confidence before dropping the money on tires, ha.

Did a cab mount chop and cut the body pinch weld and hammered it flat also got SPC upper control arms to help put the tires as far away as possible. And slight fender/ flare cutting at the bottom required. After all that I have not had any issues. I’ve had it pretty flexed out with no issues. And what you would expect with these tires and gears similar to what you have. Think I’m getting like 13-14 mph if my math isn’t crazy off.
