Hey guys! I was trying to locate my fuel filter on my 2011 and 2013 Tacoma but I've heard that they are in the gas tank now? When I looked inside my engine i thought I seen something that looked like a fuel filter but now Im wondering what this is?

That is an emissions related item. i believe it is called a vacuum switching valve. Anyways, yes you read correct, the fuel filter is in the fuel tank and is not serviceable without dropping the tank

No need to replace it unless it has a hole in it and cannot maintain a vacuum.

The official name is "Vacuum Surge Tank". I was always told it is a vacuum accumulator which does the same function.

It does exactly that, it acts as a damper for the pulsation caused by the individual strokes of the pistons creating the vacuum.
