Best jack and jack stand brand recommendations

Totally off topic: @Rock Lobster I don't know how many times I've seen your avatar on here, but I just now noticed that your pup blinks. Had me looking hard at my screen.

 

This is the bottle jack that I have: I came close to grabbing the Pittsburg rapid pump a couple times, but I couldn't justify it with my existing jack still working flawlessly. Then, Daytona happened and friends got them on my recommendation with a lot of happiness.

My original was before they started branding their different lines.

 

In my opinion, you can't beat the low profile long reach Daytona jack from harbor freight, especially because they occasionally go on sale. It's a really nice jack and will lift everything from a sports car to a long travel truck. For jack stands, get 6 ton ones. It's less about the capacity because obviously the 3 tons can support the weight, but they're too short. The 6 tons are tall enough to comfortably support the truck, I prefer the OTC ones.

I just bought some jack stands and did a fair amount of research before doing so. The new Daytona jack stands at Harbor freight are the best ones I found, and that's what I bought. They are reinforced where it counts and have a secondary locking mechanism. The 6 ton ones are particularly beefy.

I'm a big chicken when it comes to getting under a vehicle on jack stands. But, these Daytona ones are confidence inspiring.

Another brand that gets high marks is Esco. They are nice, but I didn't like that they don't have a cradle for putting under axles. Also, they are a bit clumsier to set up because they are not a ratcheting design.

 

Yes. I have had 2 different pairs of the 3 ton Unijacks. 1st pair worked great but I sold them when I traded my truck off. 2nd pair, (After I traded for my truck back) one of the Unijacks worked fine but the other one hung up when I went to lower my truck after rotating my tires. I went to the front one and lowered it and about that time the one I had under the back axle dropped down. I said fuck that and sold them both on Craigslist.

 

Gonna add to this conversation for others who are looking.

What lift height do people use for their jacks and jack stands? As mentioned above, it's not usually the load rating but the lift height that matters when you have some lift on the truck.

BTW, I like these. They are individually rated (most jack stands are rated as a pair). I like the three legs and the lift is around 20"
