Not so much for the buses but for the teachers having to leave early to show up on time.

Also the fact lots more cars on the roads.

I recall many a morning after a snow fall the buses being chained up.

Yesterday as I was getting my son out of his car seat in my truck I remembered how we used to be able to ride around in the bed of a truck.
Now as a father I couldn't even imagine allowing my son to do that. The other day I saw someone in the Target parking lot with their toddler in the front seat of a Tesla without a car seat - then I saw them inside Target and it took everything not to say "I hope you're buying a car seat".

I never wore a seatbelt until my kid was born; in fact, I cut all of them out of my previous vehicles. But after he was born I decided that if I'm going to buckle him in, and make him buckle up when he gets older....how can I do that without setting an example? 25 years later now; sometimes I catch myself buckling my seatbelt to drive to my shop (it's 60 yards from my house).

I only started wearing seatbelts when my state decided to give tickets for not wearing it.

I thought that lady was snorting coke off the washing machine from the thumbnail...

I carry cash and have no tattoos... Under 40 years old. My wife and I used to have spirited debates on the percent of women below the age of 70 and older than 18 that had at least 1 tattoo.

Never had that issue. Stoves I used were gas... You had to make sure you didn't burn your face / hair off.

I was taking Driver's Ed around the time seat belt laws were enacted. I never wore them before. No click, no drive time. After Driver's Ed, I actually felt naked not wearing them...

I never had to resort to that, because I always carried a butane lighter on my bike. Not just for smoking, but to re-solder those pesky control cable ends that would pop off from time to time.

I would’ve just installed an electric cigarette lighter on my bike because it had a battery, but I wasn’t into cigarettes. I was one of those snooty pipe smokers.

When I was a little kid my dad put seatbelts in our ‘59 Plymouth station wagon. Unlike our slow 53 Chevrolet, it had big tail fins like a jet. This is the first things we noticed as children, Because we lived on an Air Force Base and F100s were taking off daily.

When we asked him why we should wear seatbelts, he said, “This is like an airplane, and every pilot has 5 seatbelts on them”.

Of course we asked him how come we only got two, and he told us that he didn’t intend to take off the ground with us in the car.

When I started flying in sport planes I realized he was absolutely right. Five-way seatbelts to keep you in that thing, when you’re upside down and pointing at the ground, hanging in the straps.

By the way, even my antique cars always had seatbelts in them.

I'm glad you brought those cable ends up! Just last weekend I came across a couple of examples of my "fix" for the wee buggers - and I took photos of them:
Soldering is nice, but when the cable end is lost...

These are made from the threaded tops found on sparkplugs. These examples (spares) were made in the garage; but the first time I made one was out on the trail and wasn't as pretty. But it functioned and that's what counts.

Remove the top from the sparkplug; file down enough to expose the hollow center core & to a large enough opening for the broken cable end to be inserted through (repeat on other side); and insert a screw down the center core to pinch the cable and hold it in place. These WILL fit in the recess found in brake & clutch levers from 1960-70 era motorcycles.

The drill-bit in the garage works best. Obviously.

I think they are great for finding local business that the internet doesn't know exist. Most small business will have a telephone number and not a website.

Sad, I used to pride myself by getting the ones that didn’t get mailed directly to you. Different area codes to source materials and parts. Internet ruined everything!:annoyed:

Amen to the 5 strap belts in aircraft -- Pilot skill, the belts and the strength of the old plane saved my (and my SIL's lives in a 2016 crash. It was a WWII T6.
