    I carry cash ever since an event in San Diego, CA.
    I was working for SDSU in 2010-2011.
    There were rumors and skuttlebutt about rolling brown outs for the day as it was 116 degrees Santa Ana Conditions.
    At 15:30 or so, all the sudden, the building power that I was in tripped.
    Understand that that campus has steam generation for A/C (yeah, that's a head scratcher for me)
    This building housed the campus' server farms.
    Temp in the server building got REALLY hot and so they just shut everything down.
    So then I go look outside to cool down in the 116 degrees since the server farm was hotter, and all the power is out for streetlight/signals/metering/gas stations/banks/etc.
    Turns out it was SD county wide.
    This turned out to be a super fun rush hour commute - took 3hrs to get home when it would normally take 20 minutes.
    I had no cash and about 1/4 tank of gas.

    Power didn't come back on for the county fully until 01:30 or so...

    In the mid-90s, just when AOL was becoming a thing, I had the TicketMaster numbers for pretty much every area code in the northeast. When a concert or sporting event went on sale in New York, I'd just start calling the out-of-market numbers and breeze right through the queue to get tickets. 9 times out of 10 there were no location blocks on buying tickets... Then the web ruined that...

    Hell, I remember waiting outside Tower Records (4th & Broadway) in a snow-storm for Pink Floyd Division Bell Tour tickets.
