That makes sense. I doubt where I'm moving will have adequate irradiance given its a forested valley LOL

But I'm an energy miser from years of living on the road and I've already got a good enough setup for battery bank recharged by a natural gas generator that's run off homemade natural gas harvested from fermenting biomass

Was just curious what others were used to spending pre-solar and what they're paying post-solar.

Surprised my panels generated what, 512kw of power?

But even with the thermostat set to 73 and having constant 99-108 degree weather, we used about 260kw of power as we're pretty good at using energy off peak hours.

My monthly statement averages at about $20 with this last month being at $17.

But what is that after you factor in installed PV costs? (20 years*12months would be a fair divisor) In other words how much are you paying monthly for the solar?

    It's kWh btw

This SE required multiple surgeries to keep it functional. Multiple batteries, multiple screens, new home button, and a bunch of stuff I forgot. New iPhones can’t be as easily serviced. But I’m used to a tiny phone now.

I’ve determined after Apple got that slap on the wrist for the battery throttling they’re not the worst with planned obsolescence.

yeah they are all trying to keep people chained to routine replacements any way they can rather than making things more serviceable.

The EU is mandating that all phones, earbuds, keyboards etc take a universal charger soon so at least they won't have to buy a million chargers for everything like we do lol. I think that was more about cracking down on e-waste though

I ended up on iPhone because they get software updates longer. 7 years, whereas 3 is usual for Android.

my last Android ended up out of service due to a failed charging port. Now I use wireless charging for everything

    Zane...

    I hate this thing.

Stupidly awesome gas mileage, but like all Chevy engines, oil consumption is one thing they're great at. That or passages getting gummed up and blocked or filters getting clogged.

The camshaft actuator screens were pretty bad and caused a P0010 code with the car stumbling and shutting off.

Got it towed home last night, and fortunately was able to get to Napa to buy OEM actuators for both the intake and exhaust side.

Next year the wife wants to get herself a different car and I'll adopt this to be my shitbox so I can work on the Land Cruiser.

    $480/annually for 30 years so $14.5k

We're leasing it as it would've been more expensive to buy. Benefit to the lease is it's covered under warranty throughout the lease.

People around us, like my in-laws or wife's friends teeter from $150-250 per month with PG&E alone.

Will do. Was gonna look at turbo Outback, but not into giant touchscreens to control everything including A/C, seats etc. At least the Forester still has knobs and a small screen.
The adjustable under thigh part of the seats are so good btw. Comfy. If she wants something cruisy and not a lot to worry about, worth a look. I've borrowed and driven my mom's Subie the entire length of the east coast, multiple times, they're road trip machines.
