Had a rear main seal go bad at 66,000 miles. Dealer replaced at a cost of $1,513 . Ran out of warranty. Have any of you had this happen this soon? What did dealer charge? Had a dealer quote me $2,500 for the same job

I had mine done. out of pocket dealer quoted 2500, i said do it, but use the extended warranty company. When it was all done it was about 1300- 1400 they charged the warranty co. I'd have to look up the exact amount,i also go a free car rental.

This is why techs hate extended warranty jobs, they generally pay even less than warranty work.

My timing cover was going out at the same time on my 2016 sport. It was cheaper to have them done together.

I don’t know. Didn’t see it until I got home. I’m going to call the dealer today to ask because I am also curious.

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Lots of great info on this forum over the years. Had main seal replaced on my 2017 OR at 103k. Independent shop replaced for $1500.Even though I was surprised that is was main seal, they said they have seen a couple.
Placed an order for a 22 in April, same color and options. It will be my 5th Taco.

Welcome to the group buddy. There’s a lot of great info on here. Good luck with your new Tacoma man. I had a 2006 tacoma ran like a champ. After the rear main seal problem on my 2017 and hearing about guys with timing cover issues I am a little worried. Might trade in for a 4runner. Hope you have luck with yours.

Thanks VP, I had an 81, 06, 14, and my current 17. It's got 120K on it (lots of fishing trips). When I finally get my 22 it will be interesting to see what dealer wants to give me for trade in. If it sucks I have a couple dudes who want to buy it. In between my 81 and 06 trucks, I had two 4Runners. In all those years I've only had head gasket go out on 95 4Runner at 140K and the main seal on the 17 Taco. Pretty solid.
