On my taco I have a cab height cap. It looks nice and I like not having my RTT sky high. That being said I just sold my F-350 that had a mid rise cap on it and I LOVED it! Doing it again I would have gone with the hi rise canopy on that ford. You can just fit way more stuff in the bed. I guess there are a lot of factors to weigh though.

I just realized how old this thread is and it was bumped for a different reason. My bad!

reviving a really old thread again! I prefer the look of a cab high shell but understand the benefits of an above cab height shell. Is sleeping in a cab height doable with a platform underneath? Any thoughts?

It's doable but not comfortable- kind of coffin-like in my opinion. Even when I was younger and more flexible I tried it and realized it wasn't for me, too many downsides. If all you're doing is climbing in to sleep back there it'll work but if you think you may do any stealth camping or spend much time back there, like getting stuck waiting out a storm or something, it'll suck. You can sit up meaning you are limited in positions to move around, it's harder to get dressed and undressed, you can't sit up and read, play on a laptop, fix food or drinks, get freaky, etc.

For those with a mid-rise cap, with tailgate down and cap door open, what’s the opening height at the lowest point of the cap?

See the attached random picture I found for reference.

Bump on this old thread - anyone with a mid-rise cap have a measurement on the total cap height *outside*? I have a Rack-it 3000 lumber rack, and am wondering if I can squeeze a Leer 180 or an ARE MX under there. Not happy with my current Snugtop, keep busting my head on it.

Anyone put an awning on the roof rack of a mid rise? Thinking about getting rid of my softopper and going with a mid rise and a 270 degree awning
