I've had my '11 4Runner for a few years now and have loved every moment of it. Currently sitting at around 285,000 KM. Since I've owned it I've upgraded the suspension to 5100's all around and have a set of TRD Pro wheels with 255/80/17 Cooper S/T Maxx's. As much as I'd love to bring it across the 300,000 KM mark, I know that will have a significant impact on trying to sell it down the road.

Life has also changed and the need for hauling loads of lumber, dirt, garbage, etc has increase so I've been debating jumping into the Taco world. Being able to set up camp in the 4Runner has been pretty great, and the back window feature is a clutch for the dog. 7 seats is nice to have but rarely used (no kids, yet).

I recently came across a '14 SR5 with roughly 250,000 KM for $27K. One owner, in great shape with the exception of a few scratches and chips as expected, with minimal rust.

And more recently have come across a '17 TRD Sport V6 Double Cab LB 4WD with roughly 180,000 KM for $30K. One owner, in great shape with the exception of a few scratches and chips as expected, with minimal rust. Also, does anyone know if the 255/80's will fit the stock suspension (I've scoured through the forum and seen conflicting arguments)?

Curious if anyone has made the leap from a 4Runner to a Taco and can share their thoughts?

I appreciate your help in advance!!

With the TRD Pro wheels (0 offset) and skinny 33's you should be able to put them on with stock suspension and a damn good alignment. May need to get new UCA's to increase caster a bit to keep it off the cab mount.

Put a little money in the 4runner and keep it. Unless you need a bed you would be trading down IMO

i went from suv to truck when hauling became more a more important part of my routine. not specifically from 4runner to tacoma in my case, so i can't speak to build quality of those two, just utility of the body style. every once in a while i miss having the extra interior space and think about the what ifs. but it always comes back around to hauling for me.

if i had room to park a trailer i'd probably be in a 4runner though!

Appreciate all the feedback above, did not think keeping the 4Runner would be the general consensus here!

I should also note that I’m in Canada and the market value for that Taco is roughly $35K, even that being on the lower end of what people are listing theirs for. So there is a bit of a financial consideration, even though I know vehicles are generally a depreciating asset. I managed to snag my 4Runner for a hell of a deal, so selling it for more would close the gap to about an additional $7500 to get into a taco that is 6 years newer, which doesn't make this any easier haha.

Hauling stuff is definitely becoming more common these days but I usually have access to borrow a trailer from a friend.
