I think everyone that has ever even considered reloading feels pretty much the same way

..........and once they are available we will all hoard buy to stock up and push out the scarcity even more. I think my reloading gear is going to collect dust for a long time. Yep. looking for small pistol primers too.

    Those prices are insane!

Yesterday, I ordered a couple of boxes of shotshell primers from Brownell's for $75 a box. Still way too much, but that's the best price I've seen in a long time.

Brownells hasn't had small rifle and pistol primers in a long time. I got lucky about six months ago but they only would sell me 1000. Everything is insane.

They would only sell 2 boxes to a customer.

I don't normally look there for primers - I read an article/ad on Ammoland, and used that link. I'm sure they are sold out today.

Primers are starting to become more available and hanging around longer. I bought 2000 Small Rifle Magnum primers a few months back from Brownells. Fairly stocked up on everything else, but really needed them. Have not bought any more since. I think prices will come down, but the days of primers at $30/k are over, I do believe. I think it will settle around $60-65/k. Powders are becoming available again as well. The limits are what kill you. If you could get 5k of each type of primer and a couple of large bottles of powder under one hazmat fee, it averages out, but 1k primers at a time with a hazmat fee on top makes it too much!

yes they are, averages out to $119.00 per thousand. But in today's market it's all about supply and demand. Demand is high, so prices are going to be high also. I might just jump on that, since no one else seems to have any in stock. What's the old saying, A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. There isn't much I can still do physically, but reloading and shooting is about the last thing I still enjoy. I can feel my wallet shrinking just thinking about this purchase.

Keep an eye on Ammoseek.com too, they have searches for primers, powder and bullets too, not just ammo. Looks like CCI #450s are going for 79.99 from one site which would've been a steal a month or 2 ago. Pistol primers are available too but at pretty steep prices and mostly in very large quantities.

I got into reloading about 20 years ago. It all started with a varmint hunting buddy who consistently shot groups under half MOA at 100 yards and said he loaded all his hunting ammo. So that got me started to do the same. I use a Rock Chucker and a Forster Co-Ax single-stage press, using Redding Dies. I only load rifle rounds for my bolt action rifles in the following calibers: 223/5.56, .243, .308, and my wildcat caliber .20 Tactical. You can learn metallic reloading with the NRA. See here https://www.nrainstructors.org/search.aspx

anyone using small magnum pistol primers in their reloads for non magnum calibers such as 9mm or 380.
I wish someone would sell them in quantities of 1k. $600.00 is too high for my wallet.

Anybody here have Barnes TSX (or TTSX) bullets you’re willing to part with? Looking for .284, 160gr flat back.

You can use Magnum primers inplace of regular ones. Just drop your charge down a grain or two and watch for pressure signs. Generally there's no issue though unless you were already running towards the high-end of charges

I take it no barnes floating around, too bad.

I load for my 7mm rem mag, 270 Win and .222. I have some things sitting around I don’t use if anybody is interested:

40x once fired .338 win mag brass
    Hornady handheld primer tool
RCBS 7mm full length die set
Lyman 243 full length die set

Shoot me a note if you’re interested. They’re just taking up space on my bench.

@docbrown posted this in the buy/sell/trade firearm related thread if anyone is local to him.

Anyone need powder or primers? Thinning out my supply to pay some unexpected bills. The only catch is it needs to be a FTF transaction - no shipping. I am in the Brooksville FL area. About once a week I get down to the Tampa and Lutz/Land O Lakes area. Here is what I have:

    Primers
    650 CCI #250 LRMP - $75
    1000 Winchester LRP - $125
    1200 Winchester LPP - $150
    3354 CCI 300 LPP - $400 or $125 per 1000
    900 Fiocci SPP - $110
    1000 Winchester SPP - $125

    Powder (Sealed)
    2 lbs IMR 4198 - $75 both or $40 each individually
    1 lb IMR 3031 - $40
    2 lbs IMR 4227 - $75 both or $40 each individually
    1 lb IMR 4064 - $40
    1 lb Leverevolution - $40
    1 lb Unique - $35
2 lbs Bullseye - $75 for both or $40 each individually
    1 lb Alliant 2400 - $40
