while installing a rebuilt first gen TRD super charger, I found the shaft too short, which won’t allow me to torque the pulley onto it and complete the install. it bottoms out, hits the snout, and won’t spin freely..

Below is two pics, one where the shaft should sit, and the other is how mine sits… any of you know of this problem and the solution?

    thanks in advance

Maybe whoever rebuilt it used a 2nd gen supercharger shaft?

That’s an option but I would like to know more about the cause of this..

the pulley spun freely when it arrived, but it was on in reverse

I noticed it bottoms out on the snout and seizes the pulley when I swapped the pulley to the correct orientation like in the pic below…

Yea I was wondering if the internals are different between generations.. it’s either that or it’s not pressed and seated in completely…

the seller recommended to pull the shaft outwards by torquing the nut with the pulley and washer or anything to lever against the snout..

I understand the idea of pulling it out with mechanical leverage, but with a decent amount of experience breaking bolts, I want to do as much research and confirm what the issue before attempting it.. also worried if I can pull out on it so easily, can it be pushed in just as easily and seize up the engine while running

If the shaft could move forward then the entire snout would not have been right.

that shaft uses a coupler between the rotors and nose cone to turn the rotor pack.

I would send those pictures to Jon Bond to see what they say.

Hate to say it but I don’t trust any supercharger rebuilder out there for various reasons but they seem to be the okayest one at this point in time.

I called them and spoke to Nick.. sent a couple pics and he briefly showed the photos to his bosses and both said it must’ve been rebuilt incorrectly..

his bosses had no details of the vehicle application or situation..looked at two different photos & came to the conclusion within a couple seconds..

That’s why I’m not too fond about trying this over torquing method… really would like to know if anyone else has ran into this situation

Get your money back to cover the cost of parts/labor for a proper rebuild?

So the problem that is happening is that the 1st gen supercharger you can not get a snout or a nose shaft anymore unless you find one for sale. Parts are no longer available.

with that said these are made by Eaton and there are a number of other Eaton superchargers that are very similar and share the same parts or parts that are very close in size.
The Mini Cooper uses the same rotor pack gears as an example and the chev uses the same rotors and that’s why you can find rotors to rebuild the 1st gen.

I guess is that it was rebuilt but the nose shaft was damaged from wear which is typically wear the nose seal hits the
shaft and instead of sleeving it or maybe that didn’t work a shaft from another Eaton supercharger was used.

Your pulley works fine if the pulley is on backwards but is out of alignment by 3/8”.

the back side of your pulley was turned down and because of that it hits the snout.

I see you have a few choices.

    1) find a used complete snout, good luck on that,
    2) run the pulley in the backwards setting and turn the back of it down by 1/4” or more so that it lines up.
    3) run the pulley in the correct direction and get one or two pulley keyed spacers from pulley boy.
    4) get a new pulley and have the back of it turned down if needed to line up the belts.

I can see that your pulley the top on compared to my pulley the bottom one there is a big difference and this is why it’s hitting
    the snout.

Problem solved.. shaft was pressed too deep and required some pulling

Followed the sellers recommendation and torqued it down with a shim on the snout.. made sure to crank down slowly & back off every so often to see what was happening.. now the pulley can be torqued down and still have a gap between the snout.

Thanks again for everyone’s help! I’ll leave this up for future references incase anyone else runs into the same problem

    Glad you figured it out.
Get a new pulley regardless, that one was cut way down and that's really close to the snout IMO

    Good morning tacomaworld!

While finishing buttoning up the supercharger, I ran into another  moment..

I can’t seem to find the two holes where the fuel line brackets attach to the Supercharger… it used to be mounted on the lower intake so I would assume the new mounting location would be on the Supercharger (since it replaced the intake) but I can’t find them…

The pics below show the mounting location on the second gen black Supercharger, the brackets in question, and the underside of the grey Supercharger with no apparent mounting location

anyone got any idea? Thanks again

There are none that I’m aware of,
I used the tab on this bracket for the fuel line to hold it in place

Don’t forget to make a dipstick for the nose snout, 1st make sure the correct amount of oil is in the supercharger when it’s upside down.
Did you drain the fluid and put new fluid in?
Also remember to install the check valve

Yea there’s the proper amount of oil inside.. I followed the guide on this forum and added a fitting on the nose cone for quick oil changes.. found it on your channel ;)

haven’t added the check valve yet since they say 2001 and newer vehicles don’t require it.. will test drive it and if I notice any problems I’ll splice it into the vacuum lines
