I've been contemplating putting a cloth dash cover on my dash being its so hot in the summer, are newer vehicle dashs in still prone to cracking? If not, should I even bother with a dash cover?

I havent seen a cracked dash since the early 1990s.

I don't think we need covers anymore. Then again, I'm religious about using a sunshade, which has the side benefit of acting as a dash cover

The newer Tacomas (2nd gen) are solid plastic so there are no benefits from getting a cover apart from looking good and keeping scratches down. A windshield sunburst might be a better choice

This is not secured... just tucked in at bottom of windshield. Been sitting there for 15 years... dash still looks new.

My truck is outside 24/7. In the summer where I live the temps average mid 90’s to 100+. I’ve found the best protection for the interior of my truck is a reflective sun shade. It protects the entire interior including the dash. It keeps out the UV’s which are killer for dashes and interiors and it keeps the interior 10 to 20 degrees cooler than without it. Both a dash cover and a sunshade is probably the best. But if I had to choose one it would be the reflective sunshade which protects the entire interior.

What brand/size is that? Looks like it fits really well.

I think they are slightly different. Search for your year, there is probably a dedicated fitted shade for your car.

I recommend using 303 Space dressing to protect the interior plastic. It has a clean shiny look that’s dry to the touch. Other than that, a windshield cover would be your best bet.
