TL;DR Check your trailer's wheel stud size and confirm your OEM Toyota rims have the correct lug nuts. Yes, they make after-market Toyota/Lexus style lug nuts in your trailer's size (most likely).

I recently purchased a set of 2017 Sport Rims from @jnw32 and had the rig at Discount Tire today to have the 285 70 17 KO2s switched over from the Vision Manx 2s that came with the Vorsheer XOC.

Backspacing is fine, the test fit showed no issues however I did not think about the lug nut studs before today. That was a mistake. Before you go with stock Toyota wheels, confirm your trailer's lug nut stud size and order the appropriate Toyota-style / compatible lug nuts. John included the stock lug nuts from his old Taco with the rims I bought (which was ultra-cool, thanks) but those are M12 not 1/2 in. so the bro's at Discount Tire couldn't make the switch.

At the recommendation of a mechanic I picked up the OEM wheel studs for the Tacoma and went to switching them out (mistake - I should have just bought 1/2 in. Toyota/Lexus Lug nuts but for some reason my critical thinking shut down and I just went with it).

Problem: the mechanic gave me the wheel studs for a Tacoma and I didn't think to question if they would fit the Timbrens. They didn't. That is on me, not the mechanic. Below is the difference - black = 1/2in. X ~ 2.85in (came stock on my XOC) silver = OEM Toyota Wheel Stud for 3rd Gen Taco = M12 X 1.795 in (45.71mm)

You could go with replacing the lug nut studs on your trailer and if you do BE SURE to confirm your lug nut stud size. My @Timbren-Industries 5k Axle Less setup has 1/2 in. thread x 2.85 in. wheel studs. By the way Timbren - your customer service is awesome. I called and Jeanne hooked me up with some documentation while I was in the parts store. Solid job - my compliments on your staff and service.

This is probably common sense for most, if not all of you, but I wanted to post my lesson learned. If anyone looks up lug nut studs based on the year of your Taco, this will give you the correct bolt diameter (M12) but the length may be off (my 3rd gen requires M12 x 1,5 | Autozone PN 610-266.1). You need the length of the studs for your trailer's setup. Hard lesson learned.

My recommendation: The easiest thing to do is leave the wheel studs be, and get lug nuts for Toyota / Lexus vehicles made with 1/2 in. threads. I went with a mechanic's recommendation on changing out the studs when I should have researched other options.... like paying 40 bucks for lug nuts rather than bake in my driveway taking apart my Timbrens.

All-in-all it was a good experience as I learned a lot and, like Rich from DeBoss Garage says, "If you're not filthy, you're not rich." I hope this helps some of you considering upgrading/changing your trailer's wheels.
