Nothing beats the Shepherd, Michigan maple syrup festival!

I don't know how they make their batter, but no PC's compare!

They also have their own recipe for pork breakfast sausage. The sausage can only be purchased with your breakfast or as a takeout side. It is not available anywhere else.

These kinds of things are what would make for ideal road trip missions. Spur of the moment too!
When is it? ( I would guess the Fall?)

Including our very own RustyGreen there's at least 4 people tell me to just go for it. Granted I'm not going to be as good as a technician that rebuild them 40 hours a week but I believe that we can get it done.
I have quite a bit of technical training and ability to fabricate tools if needed. I ordered one tool and a book already. I feel like the rebuilt units that can be purchased have at minimum $1,000.00 of labor charge in there. At worst...or best..I'll soon know why. This ought to make for some interesting shop shares here at creeds garage.
Lots of iron in the fire now with Corvette needing finished up, valve cover gasket job on old 4runner and now this:facepalm:

I believe the ATSG books are supposed to be the best.

If you find your book # here you might find it cheaper on amz/ebay.

I'm going to clear off the back bench and move some of my things quad, chainsaw a bunch of other miscellaneous things to the pole shed and fabricate a fixture to hold the transmission vertical next week.
The small garage has a very sturdy and large bench along the south wall where I can lay everything out in order. One coworker said cleanliness is very important going back together...and lots of Vaseline :eek:

He is right, one spec of dirt can really jack up an automatic transmission.

Might as well get some nice LED lights too, Sam's Club has some shop light style for about $20. At 5000 lumens each they offer quite a bang for the buck. I put a bunch in the garage about 5 years back replacing the old 8' fluorescent lights, none have failed yet.

The pictures I'll share along the way be good then.
Most expensive kits are less than $400 and then a reman torque converter is $100 the only unknown might be the few electronic solenoids but maybe that book will help diagnose or test those? Even buying 3 new ones aren't that expensive.
A certified transmission exchange is a little over $1,800 so $1,900 with tax.
What's the worst that can happen o_O

Transtar has a good reputation for reman torque converters and rebuild kits too.

Yup. I had a 86 gmc for plow truck and they wanted $2300-2500 for rebuild, finally found a guy could do it for $750. Because it was gm. I needed it quick so he got it done over a weekend.

Not too very long ago (year) there was a guy in Lincoln, retired but did a few in his garage here n there $800.00 for GM 4L60E, he rebuilt the transmission in my son's Blazer.
Edit; he officially done done now I guess.
Can't say that I blame him.

I've replaced the old lights with new LED a couple years ago. This might be a good time to go get a parts washer. And we'll be sure and keep everything covered when not working on it.

On the surface rebuilding the occasional transmission in the garage sounds great -- he has the tools and the know how.
I imagine why he gave it up is the damn people, probably 1/2 of them won't do what the guy tells them to do, then they come back talking crap when something goes wrong.

    Goodmorning:pccoffee:
I slept in a couple of hours and sometimes I wonder if that does more harm than good, seems like it just takes me a little longer to get rolling if I sleep in.
Sitting here enjoying coffee before I get started cleaning the shop and garage. It's supposed to be 100° today and pretty sure that's close to the hottest day of summer thus far.
Ugh, I have several garage work benches and cabinets and after straightening them up it doesn't take long to be a cluttered mess of catch all things plus tools that don't get entirely put away.:anonymous:
