Rear shock. Which one ?

    Last year i’ve install 2020 trd sport suspension all around my trd sport 2008. One rear shock already busted…. I’m planning to install the icon add a leaf 1.5’’
    I’m looking at what is available here in canada :
    -bilstein 5100. 290$
    -Icon dynamic 2.0. 540$
    -fox 2.0. 490$
    -old man emu nitrocharger. 340$
    -eibach pro-truck. 310$

    So what is the best choice for me ? No hardcore offroad only soft trail for hunting and fishing

    Install your add-a-leaf, droop/compress it, and measure the length. Then buy shocks that fit. As others said 5100s are usually best bang for the buck.

    If you're in Canada then I highly recommend Elka. They are a bit more expensive but top of the line quality, made right in Canada (Quebec), and are completely rebuildable so you don't have to ever replace them. None of the others you will be able to get warranty repairs done in Canada. Talk to Krave in Calgary or Overland in Surrey.

    I run Elka 2.5s on my Tundra right now, and while they're excellent shocks I think it might be a bit overkill for how the OP plans on using his truck, and more than he wants to spend... :notsure:

    In Canada there is no factory repair shops for the others. If anything happens to the shock, you are basically SOL. The warranty doesn't help when you are on the hook for shipping them to the US and back just to get them looked at (which takes several weeks). I've ran into this issue with my 5100's, and Fox to a certain extent... Both blew within the warranty period and was forced to replace them because it was going to cost nearly as much as new shocks just to send them in for warranty.

    Elka are rebuildable and you can get free warranty work done at many shops across the country. Some people value hassle free service more than just a cheaper purchase price. Figured I'd just throw Elka out there as an option and OP can decide if it's worth it or not. But yes, they are a bit overkill from a purely functional standpoint.

    No harm in tossing out a "local" brand by any means, and I have nothing but good things to say about the Elka team and my setup! I also attest to shipping things over and back when it comes to the northern border there can be quite cumbersome both emotionally and financially. I'll just say this as a friendly rebuttal... You blow ANY shock out right now... Unless you have a replacement sitting on your shelf at home you're pretty much SOL. Even as a dealer (not that it grants special treatment) it still took 5 months for us to get our Elka kit. Even if they will honor a warranty claim you still gotta pull the shock rendering your vehicle immobile, mail it in (or find a shop), and hope they have replacement parts on hand. Most suspension manufacturers are hand-to-mouth with every single component to put these things together, and are still 6+ months as far as production times go. It's seriously a tough place to find yourself. I envy no one who blows a shock.

    That said... if one was gonna go I would MUCH rather it be the rear as they are much easier to source.

    My opinion is bilsteins are the best for performance for your money. Never had a problem with my 5125’s

    Ive change them for the fox 2.0. They say they are good for 2 inch lift but seem to have the same lenght
    The ride is better than stock but i did not drive them offroad

    I had fox 2.0 rear shocks back in the day they blew out within 6 months.
    Right now I have ome BP 51s rears but once they are done I'll have dobinsons to match my fronts.
