Pretty nasty smoke rolled into the Sierra Buttes this morning. Hopefully whatever is burning is contained soon and this doesn't kill camping season in the western Sierra.

Its coming up from the Oak fire near Yosemite. Its getting bad up here by the Lake. Was going to camp down by June Lake next weekend hope it clears up by then.

I'm assuming it's from the fire over by Yosemite?

    EDIT: @Tour991 answered that one.

I assumed there was another one closer. We went from clear blue skies yesterday to the orange tint this morning.

Cattle hauler trailer melted a wheel bearing down and started this one today on Hickson Summit. I was first on scene and called it in. Of course in the new truck I had nothing to put it out(it was quite a bit smaller when I first got there). BLM and county were there in about half hour, they also hit it with 4 big air tankers. Burned about 6 acres before they got it out.

is there a specific number to call to report brushfires or just the normal 911?
I get back on the 10th and it'll be the first season I'm in reno out and about and not staying immediately on campus so I should probably know just in case. Always have an extinguisher in the truck too. Debating getting a second one that I keep with my camping gear just in case.

911 is best but you could also call the non-emergency dispatch number if needed.

I feel like a fire extinguisher is a good choice for vehicle fires but a shovel might be a better tool for a grassfire.

It was looking chewy in truckee meadows on my way home from the gym this morning but not as bad as you have it.

It's not looking as bad this morning but the last story I saw said it will linger all week.

Went camping to get out of the heat this weekend. Up at 7k feet it was mid 70’s during the day. Woke up yesterday to heavy smoke. But other than that it was a nice trip. D93A462F-0FC0-49DF-A962-20C178A65A6D.jpg

I’ve got both. E tool and normal shovel. I was supposed to be doing wildlands firefighting this summer but knee surgery got in the way. I still at least did the training course stuff. Still sucks it’s such a regular thing all over the west coast :(
