Did you check abetterrouteplanner.com to see what your trips would really take in an EV?

 

They advertise 40 minutes from 20-80% charge which has been backed up by real world owner testing.

 

Dude, have you ever been in an electric car up vail pass, that regen is fractional to the energy used for the climb.

 

I mean, we have real world Teslas as reference.

 

It's hypothetical obviously Winnie is the last place I would run out of everything much less know where 50 amp plug is. Regardless Driving through somewhere as desolate and far as some of the places are in Texas and their inability to get with the "new" I doubt it will be a while before it's convenient to drive through such a big state hassle free

Backroads do present a problem for charging but any major route is easy. Backroads aren't hard if you plan it out but it's definitely not as easy as just stopping in the next 500 person town at the gas station.

 

Ya its through braking, our Lexus has regen as well...but you clearly dont understand the efficiency from it.

If I had money for a hybrid vehicle I would splurge. Been following the company for couple years now. Very impressive truck and kills it compared to other competitors styles.

 

That's not how it works. Here me out.

You leave Colorado springs with an effective range of 250 miles. You burn up 70 on the way Denver 180 (72%) miles left and you stop for 15 minutes to charge which brings you back to 80% charge or 200 miles. Thats not enough to get you to grand junction. So you drive 100 miles to Vail but due to the pass you end up burning closer to 125, so you have 75 left (30%). You spend 45 minutes charging back up to 200 (80%). Then head out to Grand Junction gaining about 10% from regren you burn about 140 miles leaving you with 60 (24%) mile range so you recharge to 80% after 45 minutes then head out to Moab. You end up in Moab 113 miles later leaving you with 87 miles (34%) but since you arent parked the whole time you spend another 45 or so recharging in Moab back up to 80%..

Realistically your route would need to me Springs -> Denver -> Vail -> Grand Junction -> Moab.

Availability of charging stations allows for flexibility in choosing where to stop but its limited atm. Right now I make a single stop in grand Junction. The other issue is that you are REQUIRED to go through I-70 because you can't take highways which is super lame.

Around town, fine n dandy. Any sort of road trip that you would use a truck for to do truck things (towing, hauling etc).... not so much. Hell just the drive from socal to mammoth lakes has about 4x the chargers needed spread along the route due to massive winds, shitty conditions and elevation gain that leave electric vehicles with a fraction of their actual claimed range.

 

I'm not going to check that math. Let's just say the trip in an EV or a Tacoma is just different. Personally, I'd love to haul ass up Vail pass in an EV. The Tacoma sucks balls (and gas) up any pass in Colorado.

 

Still better looking than the Rivan.

 

Rivian looks like a cartoon vehicle that appeals to grown ass men who still play with Legos and train sets.

 

Probably the only thing that doesnt dog up vail pass are EV's lol

 

Those Rivian vans are funky looking, but I don't think anyone cares what a delivery van looks like. The new postal vehicles don't look any better.
