Brake Light Covers

I was seeing if its possible to switch out the covers/lenses on OEM brake lights to be smoked. I have LED lights and a total tail stage 1 kit and just dont quite like any of the custom brake lights ive seen but want to get rid of the red and match my custom smoked third brake light. I havent been able to find anything on this. Anyone have any info? Thanks

 

You can smoke them with some spray paint. There are paints made for smoking tail lights. Just read up and don't go too dark so it doesn't affect the actual performance and utility of brake lights, reverse lights, and turn signals.

 

Saw this and thought of your thread. Smoked lenses aren’t my thing so I can’t vouch for this product, but it’s an alternative to spraying them

 

You can also find places that do window tinting that also did taillights using film. I personally wouldnt go real dark though for safety reasons

 

I tried that stuff, and it wasn't great. It does not cover the full tail light, only parts of it. It's a 3 pc kit and when you look at it from 6ft away, you can tell it looks like crap. Personally, I don't want smoked tail lights. I thought I did, but then thought it out.

I want those suckers to be as BRIGHT as possible so others can see me braking.

Think about it, you're wanting to darken a safety-warning feature on your truck. Why increase the risk of getting rear ended?

 

also, check your local laws, some tinting/smoking of safety equipment is illegal depending on where you live.

 

You beat me to it. That could be an easy reason for you to get pulled over. I know in my state, you can't tint or use smoked brake lights legally. And, like mentioned, why would you want to compromise the safety of your truck? I'd leave them alone, as well.

 

Thanks for the replies. I actually have a total tail stage 1 kit so I have super bright LEDs but my covers are red so any type of film doesnt really work well. That sorta stuff isnt enforced where I live and car mods are pretty common
