I recently picked up the 4x4 parts from a 02 4runner for my 03 Prerunner including a pushbutton transfer case and ADD front axle. I was unfamiliar with the different transfer cases but have since ordered a jshift since it seems ill need alot more to get a push button case working.

I wanted to keep the ADD since I also have the CVs and the knuckles. Didnt take solenoids or anything. Any idea what I need to wire it up to be on a switch?

I powered my ADD and locked it permanently then just used the j shift to engage the transfer case on my 00 conversion. When I get home I’ll dig around and see if it still have the wiring diagram somewhere.

J shift would have a signal out that communicates with the ADD to tell it to engage IE 4x4.

It's a green/black lead/connection coming from the transfer case IIRC.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The correct wire from the Transfer Case should be easy to find with your Meter. Are the 02 4Runners Electric ADD?

You could cheat wire it direct to the ADD actuator but use a pilot light so you remember to disengage as needed. Since you would need to wire things from scratch.

Thanks everyone for the info! A wiring diagram from anyone who has done it would be helpful as I have seen it mentioned but never seen a write up or schematic.

I'll also need the vacuum solenoids as I didn't pick them up either. Have no idea what they look like but imagine it'd be better to get them new?

I would go electric over vacuum if it was me.

    Good Luck.

Vacuum was only a thing on 1995.5 - '00 Tacomas.

4Runners are "2 years ahead" so I expect it to be electronic considering it's a drive by wire setup just like 2003 - '04 Tacomas.

Can't find any of my photos from my swap but its a lot easier to just activate the front diff and leave it locked then manually use the J shift lever to engage.

So locking the front diff with a hose clamp would do the job? Does this increase wear on the CVs or are they always spinning either way?

Are you still able to have 2wd with ADD locked in?

Take a picture of the front diff that you have so I can see exactly what you've got, all I did was supply 9v to the proper pin and engaged the fork inside of the diff.
