We don't have room for a forklift plus if we had one we couldn't fit these through the door sideways anyway.

 

I have seen this before I have watched it play out all to often in person.

The little Mom and Pop business gets the shaft unless your spending big $$$$ every month don`t bother us we just as soon not have your business .

That sucks though I did make a pole to mount on the forks for getting 24' pipe and tube into the shop on the dock .

Thinking about building a fixture plate for this machine after I get these parts done for some production stuff I'm looking at. How would you guys hold it on the table to machine the outside of the plate. Racking my brain about how to access all the way down on the part. Right now thinking a sacrificial plate off the plasma or 123 blocks and somehow positioning them so they dont get drilled into. I'm not to experienced with off the vise stuff

 

I usually put some aluminum plates under stuff and drill or mill into it.

 

Our shop is basically allergic to aluminum, cant remember last time I bought some since my main job here is purchasing.

 

You can use whatever, steel, plastic, etc.

Or blocks like you said as long as they don't interfere.

 

This. sacrificial or risers like you said. or.. if its just a basic fixture plate.. touch off the table and raise it .010" and drive your tool to the bottom and it'll leave a thin web on the bottom of the plate.. just whirly burr that guy off or hit it with a file. easy peasy.

EDIT: missed the part where you're going through. so yeah.. risers.

EDIT 2: or.. if you have access.. use a dovetail. That's what I usually do. add a dovetail to the backside and then flip over, grab by the dovetail and then profile. but thats more steps and tooling/equipment. not sure what your limiting factors are.

 

The other option is drill or mill into the vice or table. I usually do it at 250ipm

 

oof.. nobody wants to be that guy tho.. lol I've done it too. One guy thats no longer here sent a 3" facemill into the table of our brand new vf-6.

 

We've all done it, or will at some point. We had a guy who worked here who left the 3/4" wrench on the spindle of an old bridgeport and turned it on. It came off and busted the DRO on the mill beside it with a guy running it

Did it stop the machine or he have to push the E-stop?

 

I don't know of any shops with a pond, makes sense when you work on boats

 

Gotta get creative sometime. No run of the mill repair.

Our shop backs right up to a small private airport. So we hear (and feel) the millionaires leer jets taking off and scares the hell out of us every time thinking a machine is crashing. lol mostly its just prop planes though.

 

We have a railroad track in front of ours.
