SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.

I have to admit, I'm at a loss. While it's possible, I can't really see the Pedal Commander having anything to do with it; the 'hot engine' theory advanced by @cryptolime seems reasonable, especially if you can link it to always occurring with a warm engine.

when it happened with my Scion iA it would usually happen if I shut down a hot engine then immediately start it back up. like there was still fuel in the cylinders or something.

My 2020 has never done this.

And I don't have the issue with a hot engine either. Today I drove home, engine was up to temp, flashed a tune, let it idle for a few minutes, flashed another tune, let it idle again, and flashed a 3rd tune and let it idle. All were back-to-back (for unrelated testing) and I had no weird popping sounds when starting.

Maybe a very, very slight injector leak, so there's just a bit of fuel in the cylinder, which, combined with a warm engine/ambient temp makes for a super-fast start?

Well, if you ever find out what causes this immediate start, I would be interested in incorporating it into my vehicle without the pop. The Tacoma's slow start has always bothered me. It was explained to me that the engine was slow to start because some position sensor information was needed for the engine to find itself. I am use to an engine that starts with just the touch or bump of the ignition key.
