I was shocked at how exposed my new Tacoma’s catalytic converters are. These trucks are frequent targets of thieves. What are people doing for cat security?

Lots of cat shields on the market. Miller, talon, RCI are the house favorites.

    I prefer claymore. :cookiemonster:

I have RCI on my 2nd gen - it's nice that it blends cat protection with a comprehensive skid system. I have an engine and trans plate (with the guards) and they meet my needs perfectly.

    Oh look, another mod....
Cat thefts have gotten SO bad that Toyota now offers the Miller Cat Shield as an accessory on their website:

I knew there were others. I just didn’t research any further.
I just typed in “Tacoma cat protection” then clicked on the first link that came up.
Which was Talons. Not being rude to OP, but it wasn’t hard to find.

I would like protection FROM cats. There are too many in my house as it is. :anonymous::anonymous:

I don't run cat shields (yet) but I do have a little bit of experience with cutting of metals. Aluminum would be my choice, both weight and because it's a weird metal. Too thin and it can be torn through like paper. Put a little bit of thickness behind it however, it'll melt and gum up any blade not designed to handle it.

... If I wanted to get particularly nasty I'd buy aluminum and slap a thin sheet of galvanized over it. Dissimilar metals will wreck some shit. :cookiemonster:

But in reality, either works. Because defeating any kind of shield takes time and battery power, and thieves don't want to waste those.
