Anyone know if this could be done? Looking to drop a 2018 tacoma 4 x4 engine in a 1991 4 x4 pickup. I'm new to my truck and slowly learning. Also any good mechanic shops in southern California that know a lot about 1991 pickups

I wouldn't want to, all the additional wiring a modern engine would need in an older pickup would be a huge headache for little reward. Would rather look for a 3.4l v6 out of a 1st gen Tacoma or 4runner (or T-100/1st gen Tundra)

3.4 swaps into Pickups are very common

Would be the issue of mating it up to your transmission too, if it's an auto these new engine/tranny combos have so much computer control you'd have to source the transmission from a 2018 as well I'd bet. Just seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth if it's even possible.
3.4s are much more common to swap into those pickups and you could find a ton of write ups and info out there on how to do one of those swaps

    I put a 4.7 Tundra drivetrain in a 1996 T100. Functioning heat and AC.
End product was also 100% California BAR smog certified.
And, I wouldn’t do it again, if that tells you anything.
