Relay for locker solenoid?

    For my lockers, I bought this switch:

    But, the solenoids for my lockers are only 5w.
    $96 ARB 180103 Aluminum Solenoid 12VDC 1/8" This is ARB's official replacement 12v electric Air Solenoid.

    So using a calculator, https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/conversions/common/watts-amps.php
    12v 5w = 0.416667 amps
    Meaning the solenoids are waaaay under 3 amps, and should be fine without using relays.


    ...right?

    You should be fine. ARB does not run the solenoids through a relay but they do use a higher rated switch. I would run this circuit through a 5A fuse.

    I think I figured one time the solenoids can pull almost 1 amp. That might've come from measuring the resistance and assuming 14V or something. I don't remember.

    Good idea on the low amperage fuse, I can use that to ensure I don’t burn the switch.
