What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

IMO, these are the the best looking 1sr gen, 15" OEM wheels ever.

 

They’re one of my favorites

 

I cleaned my MAF today with contact cleaner. I do it about every 6 months. 2 screws out and 30 seconds of cleaning keeps the hesitation away and better MPG I have found. It is not a lot, but I did do it today.

 

Almost forgot, I did a small (no water) engine detail as well today. I do this about every 4-6 months and prevents the need for a steam or water deep clean. Perhaps I just have too much time on my hands?

I got an OEM replacement washer fluid reservoir. It didn't fit in the original spot, so I moved everything up here where this unit is designed to go. Super easy job. Toyota left junctions for both the wiring and the hose here. Just plug and play, essentially. Only thing missing was a place for the second mounting bolt.


The washer nozzles were clogged, so I ordered a set of Honda Odyssey adjustable nozzles. They popped right in and what an upgrade from stock!

 

Man those are sweet! Direct swap?

Not exactly. I cut the old mounting feet from my oem seats. Bolted them in place. Cut off the wrx feet, got the seat inside lined up and tacked them all. Unbolted and removed to fully weld them. Then back in. About 5 hrs of work, but goddamn they are some comfy.

 

Got tired of looking at the rusty top of my door strikers. Took them both off and cleaned them up with a wire wheel.

 

These baby’s came in Super quick shipping, I was surprised. Planning on installing maybe tomorrow or possibly Tuesday. I’m thinking about replacing the fuel pressure regulator while I’m in there too. I’m starting to smell fuel after start up sometimes so I’m suspicious of a leak somewhere. It’s at 293k so might as well.

 

Out with the old in with the new. It’s almost obnoxiously quiet now, really highlights the little interior rattles, oh well, I guess that’s what radios are for

 

Map light upgrade. I ran the extra wire for the door switch in case I ever upgrade again.

 

Replaced the bolts that had long ago broken off in my tailgate latch. Luckily a fairy had rattled both broken off bolt shafts right out of there for me

I think I can thank the wobbly driveshaft I replaced a few weeks ago for that.

I guess I should start checking for loose fasteners elsewhere, too.

 

I've cleaned my engine on this current truck a total of zero times, probably should do that one of these days. How do you do it without water? I've got so much mud and dirt I don't think it would be possible on mine.

 

I did it on my Camry a couple weeks ago. A wet rag, a dry one and some Armor All made it look brand new at 90K miles but to be fair it was just road grime, dust and a little oil around the valve cover in one spot. Mud and dirt probably need a pressure washer before that.

 

The key is a good deep clean (with water, degreaser etc). I'm not a fan of any dressing (armor all etc) since it just makes the dust/dirt stick to it and a pain to clean later. Before doing valve cover gaskets and TB/WP on the Taco, I paid to have it professionally cleaned. They used a bunch of dressing, but I decreased it and rinsed it off...



The Gx is much easier with the covers and only requires wiping down with a dry rag every few months, takes 10 minutes...

 

That's a lot of plastic, guess I've never peeked under the hook of one of those before. Very clean though, I don't think I'm going for that level of cleanliness haha, but I would like to get the bulk of the dirt off before yanking the engine to install all the turbo parts.
