Old Timer: 1993 3.0l Desert Dweller

A few weeks ago I purchased this project 4Runner from a local in my area. 223,225 miles. Loaded with a sunroof and my favorite part is the tailgate! So far it’s been a great addition to my Toyota collection. This is the first time I really took it out besides driving to work or the store. The 4wheel drive works wonderfully along with the Air conditioning and just about everything else too. Only issues I’ve had so far is a smelly exhaust and a few drips of oil leaking from bad seals on the oil cooler. Previous owner replaced timing belt, water pump, thermostat, front suspension bushings and shocks. It needs a windshield but so far it cleaned up really well and the more I drive it the more I enjoy it. I look forward to the rabbit hole of maintenance and modifications I will do to this machine

 

The first mod I did was give it a clean down. Knock the dust off the dash and excavate the old french fries from under the seat. Funny thing, I found enough split shots, swivels and hooks to make a small tackle kit to keep on hand. I found the original window sticker and some other goodies that came with the Runner from '93. Cool to see.

 

Awesome find! Love those 2gen 4Runner’s. Love the tailgate, best of bother worlds, a truck like tailgate and a roll down rear window like the new models.
