I set mine on automatic, and when they’re on, so be it.

I can’t figure out why people are driving vehicles with DRL’s in the dark.

In this day and age, that should not be possible. I saw it just this morning at about 5:45am.

I can tell you why in some situations because I've done it.

I had a Sprinter work van which I always had my lights set in auto. So no issues.

For whatever reason me and another guy had swapped vans and were driving to site. The dash was illuminated in his van and I was so used to auto I didn't think to check if the lights on. We were on illuminated city streets so I didn't even notice.

Manufacturers have a bit of blame for not having the dash lights tied to the head lights. For as long as I've been driving the dash lights were a pretty obvious visual cue.

I can't rule out general obliviousness either.

    Oh I know.

But this mornings incident was on a street that wasn’t brightly lit. A sensor on the car should override the switch settings. The headlights should always be on in the dark, regardless of what the stupid user has them set to. Further, the clock in the car should tell the system that for the gps coordinates, this time of day is dark and run full lights.

The tech is available. The car companies are supposedly promoting high tech safety, yet this is happening.
