2012 2.7L manual transmission. I did a transmission fluid change and noticed a leak I thought maybe the fill plug as the drain looked dry so I took out the fill plug (tranny was at hot as it had been drove) to replace the crush washer. When I removed the plug it sounded like a vacuum almost when I released the plug. I might have over filled so I let it level out and replaced the crush washer. Anyway I’ve read could be clogged vent tube. Where is the location for that to verify and how to clean it? Also I’m thinking i could have over filled and used bad crush washer.

The vent is usually on the shifter base, pull out your center console and the shift boot and cab seal boot and it should be there.

To fill park on a flat and level surface and then you just put fluid in till it just starts dribbling out the fill plug that's your full line it may not take the full spec'ed volume.

If there was some suction that's fine, the vent should be an out only vent like the rear diff and is supposed to suck closed to prevent water intrusion, if it had pressure within and blew out that's a stuck breather.

Only other consideration is to make sure you used good GL-IV fluid like Redline MT90.

GL-V will eat your brass syncros.

I used the redline mt90. I reused the old crush washers which was stupid but I didn’t have any when I done it. Randomly today I noticed the tranny fluid. Drain plug on passenger side looked dry it was the underneath and fill plug looks a little wet so I removed the fill heard the slight suction sound and replace the plug with a new washer. Brake cleaned everything to clean up to verify the fix. You think the slight suction is normal? Thanks.

I suspected it's normal if you opened it after driving, it was hot and then cooling so it may have had a little.

Using the old crush washers isn't recommended but also is rarely an issue so long as you torque to spec.

A little "wetness" is fine around the plug, if there was more than 1-2 visible drips I'd be concerned otherwise send it.

It was more in the bottom of the tranny but looked like it flowed down from the fill plug. Drain was fine. Hopefully the new washer will fix it. I hope the drain is fine as the MT90 is expensive lol.

I will also agree @Key-Rei a suction/vent sound is normal.
I’ve experienced this on the differentials as well. It’s normal.
