So I got my Scangauge 2 in today and hooked it all up and did the transmission codes. Afterwards I took it to the store 35-40 minutes one way and the hottest it got going over the mountain was 190 and that was the converter outlet temp while the pan was at 175 at the time but for normal driving it was at 147 for the pan and 158 for the converter. I read somewhere on here the normal transmission temp is 175. So I’m wondering why is mine so low?

Trans temp will vary with outside temperature, speed, acceleration, tire size, load etc.

Sounds good, what temperature would you be worried at seeing? I plan on taking a trip to NC next week and wanted to keep an eye on it before I do a drain and fill, since it’s never been done before

    Toyota says 122-176 is normal.

    I don’t like to see them at/more than 220.
Ideally below 200, but you can’t always achieve this.
Don’t freak out if you see 200+, you just don’t want it to stay in there for long periods.

145-155 is pretty normal, especially when it's cool outside. 175-200ish is pretty normal for long use. If you end up modding the truck and it gets heavy consider an upgrade trans cooler. Stock one works well if its a stock or mild truck setup. I was seeing crazy temps and back in the 145-190 range depending on use.

Highest i have ever seen on mine is 215 pulling our offroad trailer up some good inclines.. This is with stock gears and 35in tires.. Even with that going 37's im dropping a larger cooler in just to be safe. Seems like your numbers are probably about right as most of the the higher temps come from towing/big tires/ heavy trucks.

Thanks everyone on the feedback. I pretty much did all the maintenance to it on the 2nd gen maintenance thread, all except for the transmission fluid. The coolant, brakes, air and cabin filter were done not too long before I got it, so they’re good. I did everything else on that thread page. I do plan on towing a 16’ jon boat with a 25hp mercury jet, so thanks for some temps so I know what to look for on that. I towed it once but didn’t have my Scangauge then. We leave this week for NC and what my weather app says it’s going to be a hot one/week. I believe she’s ready to go! Thanks again

Lol I read that again and want to make clear that I’m not towing the boat with me to NC. Furthest that’ll get pulled is 45 minutes
