I’m having no luck finding a clean Tacoma in my area. I may need to wait a while.

The other issue is that I’d prefer a 4x2, and most trucks, even in this area, are 4x4.

The Northeast is rust row. Try searching the dry states in the south west for clean trucks. Otherwise you will have to just wait until one pops up.

Just in case you don’t already know, the list of Tacoma models is large. Sr, limited, pre runner, trd off road, trd sport, etc. When I went to the dealership in 2019, it was a 2 page long list, about 30.

Then other choices, 2wd or 4wd. I4, V6. Manual, auto transmission. Single, access, double cab. 6 lug, 5 lug.

Sorry, this is no help since availability is low. Still you could do a nationwide search and narrow it down to the options you wish for.

Finding a 4x2 is definitely going to be more challenging.

Some people just don't need 4WD. Why pay for the added cost and additional maintenance/repair if you don't don't need it?

And before someone says "resale value"....you're not paying for the 4WD to begin with. So that's irrelevant.

TacoTuesday, I’m learning that Tacomas from the northeast area may have been affected by the rust issue. I’m willing to travel south for the right truck.

As for the 4WD, as Plane Jane already pointed out, I'd prefer to save the added cost and additional maintenance/repair. There's also a small impact on MPG. I will never off-road this truck. I will never travel to areas that require 4x4. I doubt I will ever drive this in heavy snow. The main purpose of truck is to:

A - Haul bicycles for my family and I when we go on rides, never more than 1 hour away. I'm already doing this in my SUV with a hitch rack in the back. The truck will just allow to upload the bikes in seconds, instead of 10 minutes it takes me today to mount the rack and load the bikes. The dismount the rack when we return as I prefer to drive without it mounted to save on weight.
B - Occasionally move some furniture or Weber grills I like to rehab and sell.
C - Eat pizza with my kids in the back, with the tailgate open.

I also own two other vehicles, a Highlander and a sedan.

If you are dead set on a perfectly clean 4x2 I think your only reasonable option will be looking in the southern states. Even then 4x4 is still very popular. But up here in the north everything rusts, and obviously 4x4 is preferred by most for winter time

It's held in place by using 2 of the tie down cleats.

Plain Jane, that rack looks amazing and I could see how functional it is and easy to use. Do you have instructions I could follow to build it?

You could always look for a mazda truck or nissan.

Just buy a 4x4, it will be nice to have an extra winter vehicle

Don't crucify me but that bike rack is a bad idea for higher end bikes. You don't want the forks to be compressed down while traveling.

No. I just built it from scratch.....and made it up as I went along.

But it is included in the price of the truck.

Well....my bikes are hardly "high end" and secondly, I don't wrench down on the straps hard enough to compress the forks.

Nice plain Jane. I always appreciate craftsmanship creativity of others.

For us big city folks, I’d suggest a way to be able to lock them back there. So if you decide to stop for a Gatorade or burger or something, when you get back the bikes might still be there.
