Just to manage your expectations OP, Toyota corporate policy is they only give out new Pro’s for two or more valve issues…for just one valve issue you get a free oil change. Which, if you’re lucky, will lead to a catastrophic failure of some kind that will then lead to a new Pro.

 

For that kind of job, or any job that involves more than just adding washer fluid or engine oil, they should use fender covers.

 

Yet they seldom do, or seldom will. That’s one of the differences between a technician and a mechanic. One of many, but a good judge of competence and care for the customer’s vehicle

 

I'm pretty sure I'd drive across the country to have my vehicle's repaired by the car care nut, even within warranty, I'd still pay out of pocket to have his shop fix problem.

 

Correct. When I left the dealer to open my own German car repair shop, we had several customers pay us to fix warranty issues on their vehicles because they refused to take them to the dealers. It’s just unfortunate independent shops are not allowed by law to do manufacturer recalls, for obvious reasons. Doesn’t mean the recall work is always performed correctly at the dealers however

 

Unless those fender covers are spotless when you put them on, pulling them off the dusty sandy shop floor where they’ve been tosses between jobs is going to scratch the ever living shit out of the paint.

 

If that is even an issue we have much bigger problems. Still no excuse to be leaning over a customer’s vehicle while removing valve covers and cylinder heads. One dropped wrench or socket will easily chip the paint. Sorry but this is just one of the ways in which the automotive service industry has earned such a poor reputation.

 

I bought a little ozone generator on OfferUp for $30. I used it on both my cars and in my house.

 

My mom bought a brand new GM Denali with a cream white interior.

The service driver with the greasiest fucking pants brought the truck over to her without putting down plastic, because apparently for 30 seconds it takes to do that takes too long, and completely stained the seats and steering wheel with his dirty filthy hands and pants.

Then the dealership tried their best to half ass clean it, which only made it worse before deciding to replace the leather.

 

Did they give you a time estimate and an approximate list of parts that are required to complete the fix?

In the event it’s valve problems, Anyone have any idea yet how common this is with these engines and why ? Seems like a big deal in these forums but guess it represents a small percentage of owners, although several have reported techs telling them they’re seeing it to some extent. I can think of several reasons these failures might occur but it’s all speculation. For those that have been through this, we’re you left confident the issue was with a particular cylinder and now all is well ? Or are you waiting to see which one goes next ?

 

So for the extended warranty call Toyota customer service and just explain the situation how you feel like you can’t trust your truck to be reliable anymore and feel let down by the brand etc and they should ask how they can improve or make you feel whole, they’ll mention escalating the concern and you’ll get a call back usually offering at least in my 16s case a 125k/8yr warranty free of charge.

Yes very well. I rent heavy equipment and all sorts of tools.

It has removed skunk smell from houses. Death from houses and a big truck that sat for a week after the driver had a heart attack in his sleep. Smoke from fires, and cooking odors from from some strange spices.

Odorstop is the best in the business. We have the 4500 series but a 2000 is more than enough for a car or truck.

It is better to just rent it. They rent them, ship them to you, and then you mail it back. It works.

 

Uh oh. Read my post. It started off with compression test failure no3 cylinder. If that’s the case. You could be looking at 4-8 weeks in the shop for new valves plus cylinder plus gasket. Parts are impossible to find. Mine went in June 24th at Toyota, this is week 6. You can get aftermarket parts for Toyota’s warranty won’t cover them unless the genuine Toyota parts Purchased straight from Toyota. After that you get a 30,000 mile warranty. The engine comes with a 65,000 mile warranty and if you bought the extended warranty you get 100,000 mine went out at 75,000 and I took better care of this truck than anyone I know. I only ask because I looked at a certified used 2021 this weekend, had the deal in place and then went to sign and drive and it smelled like smoke so I walked away. The sales lady said they had an ozone machine though they offered.

 

Ozone machines are the only thing that actually neutralizes the odor/bacteria.

 

can't use work bench either... check out the windshield cowling.

 

One warning on ozone…it will cause rubber to dry out and crack. I use ozonics for my hunting clothes and boots. It does age the sole of the boots but the deer do not smell you. Use caution.
