By the way, my $0.02 on the wire nuts and tape is that it’s a great idea. Especially if you wrap the tape so that loosening the nut would tighten the tape wrap.

Sweet, that's exactly how I do it.

I think boss man is just super pissy today cause the shop manager left a brand new unit outside over the weekend and it was stolen :(

@Kwikvette Death Valley got wrecked this weekend due to the monsoonal storms that came through. Roads and trails completely washed away

Hope no one was out there camping in the middle of it when it happened, have seen some crazy pics like this one

    Fuuuuuuck

See that's the only type of shit I worry about, when @m3bassman and @Speedytech7 were talking about it the other day.

Odd too but I guess that's where the rain came from that we got this morning.

Yeah we got a lot of clouds and humidity from it, the mountains near us got hammered pretty good (including Big Bear) but the rain didn't quite reach us

When we go, I'll be sleeping in the back of my LC.

Just have to get your RTT up quickly if we need to B line out of there.

hopefully these areas open back up by then, probably will for the most part.

Mojave Preserve got hit hard too and heard some of the Mojave Road trail got made "impassable", but people have already posted pictures of it and it looks like it just turned it into a 4wd trail rather than the 2wd friendly one that it was. So that could be worth looking at, will probably scare off a lot of the traffic that its seen in the last few years lol.

I'd bet the wildflower blooms following that sort of rain are spectacular.

Desert flash floods are no joke, though. I once spent the morning hiking down a dry ravine in New Mexico only to see it turn into whitewater that afternoon... then continue hiking down it the next morning.

yeah the last 2 years we haven't had any major wildflower blooms due to the drought. Apparently you need so many inches of rain per season for them to bloom, the last time there was a 'superbloom' was in 2020. But this summer we've had a couple thunderstorms like this so hopefully with whatever rain we usually get in the fall, there will be some spectacular high desert blooms next spring

Oh interesting, so one rainfall isn't enough... the desert needs to be "primed" first?

yeah I did some reading on it awhile back because the company I work for wanted to do a photoshoot/ad campaign during a bloom in 2021. Kept my eye on the news but it never happened. Antelope's Valley Poppy Preserve actually has cameras with a live feed on their website that you can view to see what conditions are like. But that year and this year they've been dry and arid.

according to the website the blooms (Feb - May) are never guaranteed and totally dependent on there being enough annual rainfall from the year before.

2019 was a good one (not my pic)

    mojave-orange-superbloom-2019-lynn-bauer.jpg

its neat to see because these hills are just dry dirt most of the year then come alive for a few months before looking like a wasteland again the rest of the year haha.

That shit can happen, I've been there twice when it has rained, it is remarkable how fast you notice the sheen of water on the desert floor and in the valleys.

See the water near/abovish Dan's truck, that ain't normally there and the rain had been going for 30-45mins

No bad. I'd make another trip out that way to see that if it could be planned.

Just funny cause you asked recently if I used it and I didn't plan on it until Sunday.

My neighbor is super cool, just haven't seen him in awhile. Just got back from Texas yesterday (he's a truck driver).

Guess he's making a Kiln or something?

Good, get some practice on someone else's shit. I thought kilns were made out of clay or whatever that shit is?

Yeah he's going to put clay in there, or outside of it?

I used some flat stock I had laying around as a straight edge, but didn't start the cut until the top of those rings on the bottom so...6" up?

That's rough. But that's just the way of the desert, I think being overly cautious is ok.
