What’s going on everyone. I’ve been doing a little research into a new shim stack in my King 2.5 coil overs. They’re on my +2 standard Total Chaos kit.

Does anyone knowing the off the shelf valving for these?? To my understanding King uses a 15/12. But wasn’t sure if that was standard for all coil overs.

I’m looking to go a little thinner in the compression shims and adding a flutter, but don’t want to go too thin.

Also any input helps too. I’m looking to get a bit softer ride, I do realize I’m on E rated tires but after seeing a few videos of my truck, it seems the shock doesn’t want to compress during hits. It’s very stiff on and off road. I’m on 600# coils as well.

If you know your valving off the top of your head please share.

I don't know if you're still looking for an answer but try calling Ben from https://www.filthymotorsports.com/ he's a pro at shock valving and whatnot, he may be willing to help you out.

Oh they’ve been rebuilt for a few weeks now haha but I actually watched his video on the shock rebuild and followed it step by step! Their over the phone shock valving consultation was booked for about 6 weeks so I figured I’d do it myself. Obviously could’ve gotten a better result with talking to them but couldn’t justify waiting 6 weeks and paying $100 for a 30 min phone call AND still have to rebuild them myself lol

    @Watermallon
Curious what did you find in there for valving?
    Did you change it up?

Bought my truck with the Kings on it from a PO. To my understanding, the shocks were never rebuilt. After back and forth with King, the valving was a .020 compression stack with a .012 flutter 2 shims down and a .012 rebound stack.

I put in a .015 compression stack with a .008 flutter 1 shim down. Kept the rebound.

Daily driving, it’s a *little* smoother. Still waiting to do some off roading to really gauge it. But they needed rebuilt anyways so it’s good I did.

I’m on E rated tires so I feel my stiffness is coming from those too.

Thanks! Trying to learn about valving so I appreciate it. This will be a very broad learning curve for me lol. Oh well, trial and error and lots of notes in my future.
I can attest that E rated will shake your teeth loose, especially on pavement. E rated Cooper STT Pros at 10 to 12 psi are tolerable off road.
My other 4Runner has C rated KO2s and are a LOT more forgiving.
    There's always a trade off...

For sure man! Yeah I knew absolutely nothing about valving before I started and still probably just know the bare minimum but I like to learn! If I had the luxury of being able to pull my shocks off and fill them with nitrogen every week to test valving then I would def dive into fine tuning them. But yeah the I only found ONE tire in 315/75R/16 that isn’t E rated and they’re D rated Nitto Grapplers. So I’m gonna try them out when mine need replacing.

Were you able to find a sweet spot for the valving?

I haven’t changed anything since I’ve done the revalving. I don’t have a garage or another car to drive while the shocks are off, or nitrogen to refill them lol
