That's a little disconcerting - as it's a car I'm hoping to be able to purchase in the next 3-5 years. I wouldn't intend to drift it, but the point of it (at least as a car in my life) would be a fun DD that I could happily take to the track on occasion and enjoy with little to no modding. I'm curious if anything more will come of it as the news may gain some momentum as it continues to be shared.

Thanks for sharing. My buddy works for an auto manufacturer. They will definitely, by any means, look for a reason to deny a claim like this. The car's computer stores information, like when you mis shift and go passed redline. Newer cars will tell the story all by themselves.

Someone once told me that you should never race a car unless you can afford to throw it off a cliff. I see both sides of the argument here, but I think it'd be an uphill fight against Toyota. Plus when the owner's insurance company gets wind of this it's going to give the owner some more headaches.

Even the original frs we could see abuse causing failure.

I’ve only had one instance where I saw a customer abusing a truck intentionally leading to a decline. Buyers remorse, they blew their engine and tried to blow the trans next under 8k

I feel like the dealership would have to show that the track usage caused the failure…I’m curious what Toyota will do with this, wish there was a way to hear the outcome.
