I shared that with a few of my buddies that might be interested. That’s a good deal.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
We bought a pop up camper, a nice one from a manufacturer with a good reputation. Went to do the initial light check hooked to the truck, and it would have been better if nothing worked. Turn signals activated 4 ways, sometimes, running lights didn't work unless you hit the brake. They spent a few hours checking and correcting before making it work until a replacement harness arrived. Took about a week to get and a few hours for them to install.

Last day of work today, then back to Virginia tomorrow!

Had a blast and I'm going to miss it, but it will be good to be home too

Any chance you'll be working for Cat after you graduate?

I think there is a good chance. I've applied to the rotation program and my manager and I have been talking about career goals and such.

Compared to the other places I've worked, it's been the best. Like in our group, the chief engineer 4 levels higher than us would have weekly meetings to check in on the interns and that was especially powerful. They have major locations in Clayton NC, Peoria IL, and Tuscan AZ. It would be scary to move far away, but a lot of the cool stuff happens out here and in Tuscan.

Moving out is always tough, especially that far. But there are some great wheeling opportunities out west, and you'd be days drive from a lot of it. I might be slightly envious if you went out there.

Tucson is AWESOME!!! Granted I only was there for work trips at DMAFB...but trust me the 100° dry heat, at least for a guy like me was awesome!!!! Just remember that your perspiration evaporates so you barely realize you're losing water that way.

Definitely scary moving far away but the opportunity sounds incredible. Especially moving to AZ and being so close to a lot of good wheeling. Sounds like they're a good company and are taking care of you, which is also a strong consideration for staying with them.

I think a requirement to move to Tucson is to spell it correctly first.... :boink:

I lived in the Phoenix area for a while and loved it. Tucson is about the same. Lots of opportunities for outdoor activities. But don't discount Clayton. Raleigh is a really cool city. Big city with southern mentality.

And honestly, you're in an industry that's easily transferable, so if you don't like it, you could relocate.

You ever consider working at a military depot? Just tell me what you might be interested in.....heavy equipment like M1 abrams? Shipyards like Norfolk? Even Aviation has heavy equipment. Bottom line is we have sites all over the country. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you to the right people.

    Thanks guys!

Isn't being illiterate a required qualification for engineering?

I actually am favoring Clayton (if I even have a choice) because it's closer to home and my best friend right since middle school is interning to full time for a company that is based in Raleigh. But I wouldn't pass up a good opportunity to further my career. In Tuscon, they do the large mining truck testing so that is also especially appealing. Peoria also has a lot of mountain biking and I know people here from this summer. Really I think I could be happy in any of those locations

Also isn't Randy moving to Tuscon in the next year or two? He could never get rid of me

I have a friend that's also an engineer that went to Tech, he works at Altec. Started at the Roanoke facility and moved down outside of Raleigh. They live in Wake Forest so it's the other side of Raleigh but that area is pretty solid.

Tucson actually has a pretty robust mountain biking trails, plus like Tiny said, tons of BLM access land out west.
I did a very limited amount of hiking up on Mt. Lemon, don't know how I'd deal with the lack of 4 season changes, but that's my take having mainly lived here in the Old Dominion.

Yep Tuscon seems to be the best in the nature and outdoors department, but the furthest from home :(

Life is an adventure. And Tucson is a short flight away. Maybe you can talk your folks into retiring to Mesa with the rest of the blue-hairs. Then they'd only be about 190 miles away.

Recent political events aside, I'd move back to AZ in a heartbeat. Just a different pace of life. I didn't think I'd be good with the weather, but surprisingly I liked it.
